Seems like a blunder by NZ to not play a spinner. Although I saw a stat on Twitter the other day that showed the Indian batsmen have astronomical averages against LAS

Herath in Sri Lanka wrecked havoc when India were chasing 187 at Galle back in 2015. So there are exceptions.

But I think looking at the forecast they have made a right call.

India have batted brilliantly this morning leaving balls outside off while attacking the bad ones.

I feel New Zealand haven’t bowled that well so far. Few off the balls have been too full while few are a little too short. Sticking to a length is a must while bowling with the dukes ball and NZ haven’t done that. Going back to the basics is the right thing to do at this stage.

So after a good start both openers are back in the hut.

And yeah commentary is world class for the final barring maybe Sunil Gavaskar.

Bonus - DK is fantastic.

That session was fairly balanced I'd say. A great start from the openers weathering the new ball storm, but NZ have came back well with two quick wickets. Hoping for a Kohli special today.

NZ may have missed a trick here by not playing Ajaz. Sure the Indian batsmen have huge averages against left arm spin, but for some reason India struggle to play spin well in England (courtesy Moeen Ali). If India gets a good first innings total in, and the pitch becomes more spin friendly on days 3 & 4, NZ could be in trouble given Southampton offers turn to to the spinners later on in the game.

Kohli’s performance could well decide the fate of this match. He is just that kind of player, if he clicks the bowlers are under pressure. Pujara just need to forget about scoring runs and needs to hold one end as long as he can while others have to bat around him.

This is brilliant

Maybe ICC only remembers Gill smashing Mitchell Starc at the Gabba. Gill is equally good against both kind of bowlers and more dominant against spinners.

Edit: They also forgot how good Rohit is with the slog sweep.
