The end of the world is nigh...or is it?

Yes the world is going to end, the mayans will come and kick everyone in the gorin.

Didn't some Chinese dudes or something predict that the world would end in 2000? I'm still very much here.

Yer it is gonna end, a dog told me behind a shop the other day :D. Im gonna get resurrected though so dont worry about it. Make sure you leave a note in the leaving thread a few days before.

I think the Mayan stuff is crap. Where are the Mayans now? That's right - DEAD!

I do, though, think the world is ending. The signs are huge - Global Warming, Snow in warm places and heat waves in tundras, tsunamis, earthquakes, natural disasters happening more and more frequently..

I'll give the earth/mankind another 600 years or so.

The earth won't be destroyed, not least until the phase of the sun changes and the sun literally eats the earth, but we will be long dead by then. The world will cope just fine, it will adapt. However, we may not. I still think we'd survive as a race (barring complete nuclear war, doubt that will happen), just not in the huge numbers we have now. I think our biggest problem is over-population, food is expensive now, think how it will be when there are 10 billion souls on the planet to feed. One thing is for sure, we are the masters of our own problems.

Growing up I read world will be under water in 1997. Its still like that and not even cm of water has increase.
Then they said world will be warmer by 2 degrees. Well temprature is getting lower and lower every year in here.

We have been threatened a few times now that the world will end.
First it was some dude that said Dec 25th, 1982.
Nothing happened.
Then it was Dec 31, 2000 (Remember the Y2K bug scare?)
Nothing happened.
Then it was 05/05/05. The alignment of the planets in our solar system which was to throw our planet off into oblivion.
Nothing happened.
Could this be the government scaring us to keep us in check and under their spell?
Recent events such as the Boxing Day tsunami and the China earthquake, countless tornados and extreme drought, floods etc are all pointing to one other theory: The Revelation Chapter in the Bible (if you believe in it) Many things in that chapter are occuring more frequently now than ever before. A lot of it is due to our own human development: industry, cars, deforestation, pollution and the chewing up of natural resources. Without sounding too much like a greeny (which I'm not) I believe the only way we can keep this planet going is by harnessing the one natural energy which doesn't cost anything: the sun, solar energy.
The other sobering thought is that we have already done much damage to the planet and it would take a thousand years to totally get rid of any pollution on the planet.
The other thing is that the sun will eventually die in about 5,000 years, slowly dying and losing heat, leaving earth a cold, frozen barren wasteland, until the sun becomes the size of an atom and explodes, taking everything and anything in its path, including our planet. Lucky we won't be around to see that!
Hopefully human kind will be living on another planet by then but hopefully next time, they won't destroy it like we have been doing here.

I think the Earth will become too overcrowded for people to use in the future. That, or it will become too hazardous.

I think humans will then look to occupy space stations, the moon, and maybe other universes by then.

But for right now, i'm enjoying my beautiful Earth, lets all keep it that way.

I think 25 years from now Canada will be Sikh country.

All that will end in 2012 is Cristiano Ronaldo's career at Manchester United.

How could the world end on 06/06/06? I understand the logic behind it but wouldn't a better date be 06/06/6 AD not 2006?

Correct me if i'm wrong. But the Mayan calender is circular, and in 2012 it simply has completed a full circle. Don't know why that means its the end of the world though.

Time for history buff to show his stuff :p You are correct in that the Mayans calendar is a circle. I don't know the exact dates, let's say it is 2012 when the circle is completed. On that particular day the Mayans believed that their God (something to do with the sun) will devour the world and after a certain period of time there will be a new world which will replace this one with a certain amount of humans to re-populate. I think this one would be the 6th or 7th time it has happened????

Utter crap of course :p
