What player do you want in your team?

I would want someone like MS Dhoni to play for Bangladesh team. Our wicket keepers aren't good enough to save the team's batting collapse. If we have someone like Dhoni, he will bat in the middle order and make it really strong.

no one picked sacin?

aight

sacin, gilly, wasim akaram, warne, andy flower, azaharuddin in bangladesh.

actully i would rather see bangla player more then this legend. it some how doesnt feel right inside. no matter how big those names are, you still want your ppl no matter how crappy they are. weird

oh also brett lee in BD =P

I would like to have Sachin as an opener in ODIs, but I won't take in the test side. Gilly, Wasim, Warne, Andy, Azhar all have retired already so you can't have them.

It's a close chase between AB Devilliers and Micheal Clarke. Very similar players in terms of batting, but I guess Clarke in the end.

Plus, his style would fit perfectly in the Indian team.

Murali and mendis to india, prediction, really..

Murali's grand-father is an indian, who has worked in sri lanka and was set to go back to india after his job, but his son stayed in sri lanka, hence, Murali was born to him and he's a sri - lankan now..

Mendis - I would rather Put all bid for india, and also, if he learns swinging the ball, he can swing batsmen out..

Other Picks;

Saqlain Mustaq - England.

Monty Panesar - India.

O. Banks - England.

Chris Cairns - India.

Heath Streak - Australia.

Shaun Tait - New Zealand.

Danish Kaneria - West Indies.

V. Kambli - South Africa.

R. Key - Zimbabwe

Etc;..:D..

From players currently playing, I'd love to see Mendis in the England team. Monty's a decent spinner, but he's not going to run through teams, even on a spinning surface. Mendis would be able to play in ODi's and Tests and give us that extra dimension that could make us an excellent side.

This is easy.

Ajantha Mendis.

A quality young spinner like Mendis is the rarest thing in cricket.

You'd be stupid to pick anyone else over him.

Yeah, Australia need a spinner badly. However New Zealand need a good opener or middle order batsman who can play long innings more. We're not short on quality spinners.

I am going to say one thing about those picking Mendis in their team already.

Let me explain what some of the Pakistani players have and are doing. Before a major tour or tournament, they pick out key things from the opposition. In this case, it would be Mendis. The video analyst for the Pakistan team (his name escapes me at the moment) will give the Pakistan players on their iPod Videos different videos showing the variations of Mendis.

Specialist batsmen like Butt, Younus, and Yousuf will look at those variations repeatedly, in an attempt to memorize them. In my opinion, to play Mendis, you have to first read him from the hand. Once you have read him from his hand, look at the spin of the ball and confirm your "theory" that the ball is an offbreak or a googly or whatever.

Basically my point is, most people here are way overrating Mendis. Yes, he has many variations to bamboozle batsmen. But can he be picked, especially with technology? Let's say Mendis was around back in the 1980s and 1990s when technology wasn't at the state that it is (as far as cricket coverage is concerned).

As many users have said in this thread, Mendis is a great spinner. I believe he would be one of the best spinners, had he been playing in the 80's and 90's. The pitches wern't as flat, and technology well... wasn't as good.

I for one was very interested to see how Mendis fared in the ICC Champions Trophy. He has all the variations, but can he win against technology I think is the question.

I'm sure that India and the West Indies would have used technology against him.

I think the only chance we have of playing him is if the Home Office refuse him a visa for the next tour!

The West Indies really had no look at him though - one ODI is all.

I don't think Mendis has used all 5 variations in one game. It will take time to decipher him, like Murali once was (and is still difficult to decipher) but I think once Mendis plays in England (with the Sky Sports crew as broadcasters), it will become easier to play him.

Let's just see

Sure he's played a handful of games, but he's promising. He'll have some ups and downs but in future he could be at Murili's class.

Yeh people definitely worked out that Murali fella, he's crap, he's only got 756 Test Wickets, with only 82 wickets in 13 Tests in 2 years, averaging around 24. Technologies definitely made it harder for Murali to get wickets hasn't it.

Ryan ten Doeschate, I think, quality all rounder, to replace Pathan with, but I guess we need more of a bowling all rounder and not a batting one, even still, I would rather Tendo than Pathan.
