The end of the world is nigh...or is it?

There is a huge object that is coming towards the earth. I will reach the earths orbit by 21st december 2012. In February 2013, It will be in between The Earth and The Sun. It will create problems such as High Intensity Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Climatic Changes etc. 2/3rd of the world population will perish by 2015. The NASA scientists knew this in 1980's.

This may not be true. This is what I have heard.
These "scientists" have been predicting stuff left, right and centre for a long time and I am yet to see something that actually happened. My city's weather forecasts are better than these predictions.:p

I like the idea of a massive object just sitting directly between us and the Sun. It will map our orbit exactly, will it?

Tidal control is mainly caused by the gravitational pull from the Moon, rather than the Sun.

Moreover, an object right in line can block all the heat coming from the sun which can cause extreme cold on the earth. There are N number of possibilities of how it could affect us. It might also be possible it just comes for a while and passes, just like a solar eclipse. What is that large object though, I don't know. But it sure must be travelling at a very high velocity.

Well if its around the same size (Meaning same mass) as the moon, it might even get trapped in the gravitational pull of the earth and move around it as a natural sattellite, depending on the situations in which it strikes the gravitational field of the earth.

Gravitational forces nevertheless! Although I have no idea how that would affect volcanoes :p

Extreme cold could be an issue, and like Kshitiz said, it could become a new moon. Or maybe go around in an orbit around the Sun instead?

I don't believe the Earth has ever had a 2nd satelite. Most new things entering our solar system that don't go into the asteroid belt collide into Jupiter because of it's huge mass.

Where are you now and why is it taking you four years to get here?

First I've heard of this. Although I seriously doubt it'll cause much hassle, you need a seriously massive object to effect such changes and I'm talking mahoosive. Think about it, the moon is about as big as Australia and in cosmic terms its bloody close and what does that do to us? Apart from tides not much. Me might well be seeing a NEO but as long as it isn't an ELE I'm not too fussed, in any case we can always send up Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck and even then the chances of Afleck meeting certain doom by far out weigh the destruction of the Earth :p

It appears Stevie is being shot up into space for some reason :what

If the world ends in 2012 (which it isn't) I'll be so pissed about just getting my degree and it being worthless

Don't worry, degrees are generally worthless these days as anybody seems to be able to go to uni.

I think that's quite a big thing, Kev. I doubt we'd exist without moving water.

Just reading the posts here has made me do one thing
ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:p
