The end of the world is nigh...or is it?

Last time I checked (and this was A Level Geography) volcanoes and earthquakes are down to the continental and oceanic plates not random objects floating around space ;)

The only possible ways the world can come to an end are:

1:AIDS or some other disease

2.Nuclear Explosion/War

3.Meteorite Collision

4.Alien Attack

5.Environment Destruction Results like global warming.

6.Robots.

In 2012, a guy in black overalls and chic sunglasses will fly around and fight bad clones. At the end everyone will be sleeping. One old lady will get up and say "It is over". The reload will be complete.

No. 5 is the most realistic reason. Others are a bunch of bullshits. And even if the world end's because of global warming it will take about 200 years or so FROM NOW. By that time we'll all be dead, right?;) The day when the world will end, i'll meet you guys in heaven? :pOK?:D

But scientifically, aren't we in the Contracting phase of Big Bang theory? Like universe expands to one extent and then it starts contracting. But origin of universe or end of universe is and will be a open and unexplored topic for ever.. Whatever science develops, whatever theories come up the origin of universe and its end can never be told in a confirmed and assured way. Anything can happen.. even next second. :D Thats life.. No surprise to me even if anything happens on 2012 or whatever year. :)

Yes, it is.

Not in the literal sense, but it is.

According to Hindu mythology something is going to happen in 2063.

Contraction of the universe according to cosmo physics equations is not going to happen. As per in the world of Physics on a grand scale like this, there are ifs concerned. Critical density:

The critical density is the watershed between an expanding and a contracting Universe. To date, the critical density is estimated to be approximately five atoms per cubic metre, whereas the average density of the Universe is believed to be 0.2 atoms per cubic metre. Therefore, the Universe will expand forever

Asteroid collision is a real possibility and has happened before. Remember Dinosaurs?

Am considering a career as a doomsday prophet. Looks damn profitable these days with everyone believing anything.:p

Many people may find that end of world is some science fiction but it is bound to happen....So be ready...

Spare us the myth-ology please!

I hope by the time that happens, humanity finds ways to settle on other planets. Pretty sure that'll happen someday. I do hope it happens in time though.;)

Mythology is more reliable than Science in the longer run.
