Obviously not Overrated and not underrated too,he lets his run's speak for him, probably getting the attention and he deserves it.

Rated rightly at the moment. He is neither here nor there in terms of greatness and a lot of opinions at the moment(opinions that either call him great or the ones that claim he will be nothing more than a slogger) are just speculative. I personally, can rate him correctly only when his career is over.

Well, he's got 1200 runs at 52 in the last 12 months and has a high score of 319. I don't think he's overrated one bit.

voted one of the best atm. gets the props he deserves, needs to improve hi record in some countries but he is a good batsman. overrated by some and underrated by others.

He is just a natural player who loves to play freely and naturally,

  • If you expect lot of those explosive runs in each and every match, then Sehwag is over-rated.
  • If you feel and wonder why Sehwag just gets out as soon as he comes.. Sehwag is under-rated!

Just a unreliable explosive threatening natural hitter, as simple as that! He went down in his career actually when he tried to play matured role as per the match situations.. These guys should never get those thoughts of playing as per team demands till the age 34 like Sachin ;) Just go and destroy the bowlers. :p

Neither orverrated or underrated. Over the last few months, he's built up his consisteny considerably, so that throws the him being a slogger argument out he window. As some people have already said, he always just plays his natural game, irrelevant of the match situation. If the ball is there to be hit, he will hit it. Simple as.

Virender Sehwag is actually aussie_ben91?

Sehwag is overrated. Carbon Copy of Chris Gayle, who averages 40 in lesser conditions. Anyone who averages under 10, in two different countries which possesses bowler-friendly conditions cannot be rated one of the best.

He is actually under-rated.But soon the world will shut thier mouths and accept him as a great.

Viru cant be called as a slooger or a flat track bully anymore.Hes ruthless in destroying attacks and in the recent times is consistent in doing that.
He shows class.Just because he doesnt have an outstanding footwork,he cant be a slogger. He shows class and plays in his own natural way.Definitely not overrated.
With the consistency hes showing now,he can only go up now.

you are actually calling Chris Gayle overrated?

No, I'm saying Gayle would average over 50 aswell if he was in Sehwag's situation.

I see, well Chris is starting to improve and play more to the teams needs, which for the WI is a good start or not losing a wicket in the 1st 10 overs of a test.

Sehwag should realize that his approach doesn't work in countries like NZ and SAF and change something around. A batsman that can only play on pitches that favor him. I still call him one of the best atm and I think that he can improve on his records away from India.

I also have to say that Gayle prefers the conditions where the ball comes on to the bat, rather than slow pitches because of his lack of footwork. There are still a few countries where Gayle could improve his average.

Well, Sehwag did play well in the NZ ODIs recently(I must admit, the pitches were batsman friendly). I assume you mean his approach wont work on green pitches. But he was the one who scored a bit of runs when India toured NZ in 2002 iirc. He even hit a hundred. But I am not sure about that. Can someone check it for me? Thanks.

Found it. He actually hit two 100s and a 40+ score on pitches that were giving ridiculous swing assistance to the faster bowlers. So, the notion that he wont be able to succeed in green pitches is baseless.

Found it.

that was in a ODI, in tests he only had 3 chances so far to score a hundred in NZ and hasn't done so far. He actually doesn't have a 50 in NZ.
And yea I was talking about the way he approaches the game on these quicker pitches, it will have to change in order for him to find success on them. And Im not saying score with a strike rate of 40 but be more patient.
