The thread did'nt ask if he is an over-rated or an under-rated opening batsman. It just says batsman. So, filtering stats based on batting position is not meaningful in this scenario.
Poor excuse. Where does it say that? Anyone whose anyone rates Sehwag as an Opening Batsman, not a middle-order batsman.

So, his hundred at no.6 in RSA does'nt count? You twist stats to make him look bad.

I don't agree with leaving out that hundred since it was scored by him in SAF but it doesn't bump his record much.

Some might say its harder when you open the innings (which is true) but I would have included that hundred my self.

Also not Sehwags fault where the team puts him to bat.

Sehwag came into the side as a lower order batsman mate. Check some old scorecards. He was asked to open by Ganguly as an experiment and he turned into a regular opener after that.

But when you compare Opening Batsman (which is what Sehwag is) then it is pointless to add on scores when they batted in different positions because it is irrelevant to the Opening Batsman arguement.

We did'nt compare Sehwag with anyone for starters. It was first said that Sehwag cant play well in NZ and RSA. But, it turns out that he has scored 3 ODI hundreds in NZ and 1 test hundred in RSA. Then his stats are further filtered to the opening position, in tests, in RSA and in NZ where he has failed(Yes, those numbers are not good). And by doing that, we ignore the bigger picture. The stats that I have seen tell me that Sehwag needs more oppurtunities in the said places to excel.

nobody said he hasn't scored ODI hundreds in NZ, he hasn't scored test hundreds there.
I thought we were anything about Sehwag as a test player, as a ODI players he is in the middle.

This thread is targetted at me for my opinion on Sehwag and comparisons between Sehwag and Hayden. So we are discussing Opening Batsman, whether you like it or not.

Hayden hit the highest ODI score in history by an Australian in New Zealand with a broken foot and averaged 74 after 10 innings but those statistics are irrelevant because he only averaged 28 in New Zealand in Test Matches - Which is still allot better then Sehwag.

Targetted at you? Why? I have been active again in the site for the past one month only after 6 months. Why were you "targeted" btw?:p

Having a broken foot doesnt really impact you imo, the worst you would feel would be just numbness in the area and thats about it. Plus he would have taken plenty of pain killers to relieve it.

I can only laugh at the people who are seeing Sehwag by stats,

:laugh :rtfl :laugh :rtfl

come-'on he is just a destructive player who likes to hit out or get out. You can't expect consistency from this natural talented player. Thats why I mentioned before, " An unreliable explosive threatening player ". It makes no sense to see Sehwag by stats.

When Sehwag is on song, you can see how the opponent captain breaks his head.. When Sehwag returns to dressing room soon, we can see how disappointed Indian fans become for not seeing the fire crackers.
