Best Opening Combination.

Watson and Warner will lead Australia to a tournament win I think. Only Gambhir and Vijay and Ryder and McCullum come close to matching that opening partnership.

Watson and Warner will lead Australia to the title. If at all India go with Yuseless, they should try opening with him. Yuseless at No.7 will only give the side a false sense of security that they have a big hitter in the dugout still to come and I don`t expect Yuseless to come up with those magical knocks under pressure against international class bowling.

Ryder and Mccullum. I still remember how they did it in that rain-affected match vs Scotland.

Oh yea the powerhouse that is Scotland :sarcasm

Ryder is just back from more than a year away from Int cricket and we all know how McCullum goes.

Ryder did awesome, he's in good form atm - he got some domestic runs before the T20 WC and in the warm up he contributed well. McCullum was....fail!

Ryder > McCullum

In all formats (even Twenty20), he will over take McCullum in Twenty20 soon enough, remember that McCullum has played more Twenty20is than anyone else.

Thats a bad idea. We have selected Vijay to replace Sehwag and we have to open with Vijay and Gambhir. That is the better bet. We cant rely on Yusuf to give us an explosive opening (he is worser than Afridi who used to be only a slogger until he recently started batting more sensibly). Let Yusuf remain down the order and try to give us explosive finishes to our batting innings.

you might be right there but mccullum is a wicket keeper batsman, i still have a problem with him playing as a specialist batsman, when he's so good at keeping.

I can't understand why he doesn't want to don the gloves when he is so good at it plus with McCullum keeping they can have an extra all rounder in the side like Mills.

Very true, but the selectors seem willing to stick with Hopkins. He done pretty well against AUS so I don't mind him getting a few more chances. I suppose if McCullum kept it would give us the option to pick a batsman all-rounder or bowler, and the batsman would probably be Hopkins any way. McCullum is an excellent fielder and Hopkins is an excellent keeper, so it just comes down to how they perform with the bat.

He done well under the circumstances against AUS, stats aren't everything.
Maybe not an excellent keeper, but he's looking very sharp behind the stumps lately, but I wouldn't say he's at McCullums level.

Ryder > McCullum
:thumbs

If Ryder keeps fit and out of trouble, he will be NZ's best batsmen in all forms. Ross Taylor might not agree, but STFU Ross! who invited you into this convo... :p
