Have always been interested by this. Pakistan have a fine tradition of fast bowlers while the best India have produced in the last 20 years is Lol Ishamt; who has the worst figures of all 200+ bowlers.

With similar conditions and pitches, why can't India produce fast bowlers like Pakistan?

They produced one in Zaheer Khan, he was mismanaged and favouritism for other bowlers prevent us from seeing him play more.

Zaheer was a plodder. Couldn't get a game in our local Karachi Kings Div 6 amature side

I guess so, he certainly aint no Wasim but held his own against some of the best batting attacks in Aus/SA. As I said he had immense potential still unfullfilled, physically his built reminiscent of the Pakistani bowlers along with his run up.

As asprin said, it's a massive understatement. Zak's away records are better than the likes of Broad and Anderson for example.

His overall average and SR are not so far behind of them. Given the pitch conditions in India and England, I would say Zak is no less than them.

Another troll Id ? If i would think the same way as yours than Younis Khan wouldn't even make into our Amateur Mumbai Side.(Although i am big fan of Younis).
Coming to Zaheer he was the best exponent of reverse bowling after Wasim Akram the latter himself acknowledge that.He was very consummate with the old ball and has done exceedingly well in all conditions (fifers in NZ,Eng,SA and Aus). The only thing that eluded him was injuries that too because he only started bowling with the hard new cricket at the first or second year of Engineering .i.e. 17 years of age which is very late for a fast bowler start.

How come you forget the legend, Ishant Sharma? Jk, Kapil Dev, Javagal Shrinath, irfan Pathan, Bhuvi Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and the latest Jasprit Gumrah.

India produced so many talents.. One of the best Indian Pacer of the recent time is Bhuvi..
But yes, because of some corrupted politics in the management team so many good talents got ignored..
And Bhuvi is the best example.. The way the whole management ignored him for the past 2 year....

It's initial days for Bumrah. Need to give him more time to judge him. And honestly Umesh Yadav has improved only since last year. He was horrible before that since his career began. And ya, I agree with other names you have put forward.

More like why cant Pakistan produce quality batsman when India can? Surely the conditions are same but they produce a decent batsman? Anyways I dont want this to be a India vs Pakistan debate. I and other members agree we are not trolls, we love to discuss and I would say India have had some share like Zak, Pathan, Srinath, Prasad, Bhuvi, Praveen Kumar was good while he lasted, Sreesanth during his peak his South African inning was amazing, recently Shami, Yadav, Aaron, Bumrah all in the making of a good pace attack. I am sure there will be many that pop up. Off late we are producing talent very nicely with Dravid, Laxman, Tendulkar, Ganguly all in the roots and getting rid of home matches for Ranji has helped a lot. Love to see your answer on why Pakistan has never produced international standard batsman in recent years? I would rate Misbah, Younis & Shoaib Malik but what happened to others?

Every country has someone who will steer the team into future

Australia - Smith
England - Root
India - Kohli
New Zealand - Williamson
South Africa - Quinton De Kock, Faf, ABD as long as he plays
Sri Lanka - Matthews and Chandimal although ODI team lacks depth
West Indies - Brathwaite, Bravo

I see only Azhar Ali in test and Malik in ODI's currently. Sharjeel Khan was an awesome talent a much needed opening batsman but unfortunately he decided to waste his talent not trust it and go down the match fixing way.

I agree with the OP. For a country of 1.3 billion to not have a single test standard fast bowler is an embarrassment. Meanwhile Pakistan just keep pumping out quality like amir and wahib

I think India has always found batting and spin bowling more important than fast bowling, due to conditions. Pakistan started producing great fast bowlers after Imran Khan, who was an inspiration to youngsters all around the country. The only great fast bowler that played before Imran was Fazal Mahmood, but he performed only on matting wickets or pitches affected by rain. His record on normal turf wickets is quite poor.

You do realise Younis averaged the same as Sachin and higher than Kohli don't you?
