Gilchrist hopes Twenty20 doesn't lose its fun factor

Yep i agree lefty.

In the domestic comp dont they have it towards the end of the regular season?
The season isn't over when they start it, or am i wrong?

Yes, I am pretty sure it is the break for the Christmas and New Year's Eve. Around that time.

Twenty20 is a good invention but people are taking it too far and making it real serious. The Twenty20 World Cup could kill the fun of Twenty20.

Don't watch it then, if nobody watches it the tournament will be scrapped, but oh wait you want to watch it. So it can't be that bad can it?

I for one, look forward to how the game is played by the different nations. It's lack of innovation that'll kill Cricket, not 20-20.

It's an ever-evolving game. People who crib about 20-20 should think about how when ODI cricket was introduced, people said it will kill Test cricket. Well, nearly half a century later, Test cricket is alive and well.

I dont see how a world cup should effect the popularity of twenty20. English clubs have found out that twenty20 attracts a totally different audience to championship and 50/40 over cricket. Yes you do see some regulars at matches but mainly it appeals to a more casual fan who wants to watch a quick match, have a few (or a lot of) beers and have a good time. As long a cricket on the whole remains in the popular press I see a strong future for the game. It's not a joke version of cricket, its not just a bit of fun, its most certainly not a slog fest. It cant be ignored and it isn't going away, ok so it isn't cricket in its purest form but it is way past time for serious cricket supporters to stop treating it as a poor relation.

He's just saying that because Kent have won the Twenty20 cup. :p

Nah, its all true.
The way Twenty20 is played has attracted fans by not just aggresive play but with the sense of fun and with Twenty20 their is so little overs that sides can win or lose very quickly so crowds know they are going to be entertained no matter what.

And what a great day I had watching them win ;)

Its funny really, if you look at what clubs want to win (domestically) it goes

County Championship, Friends Provident (Although its lost its edge now its a league in my view), Pro 40 then Twenty20

But audience figures for competitions are the reverse.

I still love the Championship the most, but Twenty20 is the most fun to watch even if I do feel sometimes its a bit of a trip for such a short game.

I think, if you're a hardcore follower of the CC, for any county, then 20/20 seems like a bit of a rip off, you get comfortable sitting there, and usually your surrounded by the usuals who sit in the same seat every game. And when 20/20 time comes around, theres a lot of new people, and it might feel a bit of an invasion.

I myself look at 20/20 as a reward, its hard hitting, fun and theres are cockups which you'd not expect in a 4 dayer. The pressure is so high, its funny, not just for fans but for players, they all come off smiling, especially Kent!

Only this year, previously watching Kent in twenty20's has been roughly equivalent to sticking needles in your ballsack!

LOL @ Kev!!

Seriously though, the Twenty20's aren't going to bugger off, its a comercial, and very worthwhile tourniment for the ICC to host as really, the popularity of cricket fans love it, AND its a nice ease in to Cricket if you dont know much about it.

Although you could argue watching Twenty20 isn't the best start to a new sport, but it is cricket in the end!

The second choice is much more fun...

I think Twenty20's are here to to stay. Personally I don't mind them at all. A few games a year for the Australians wouldn't to do much harm (Like at the start of a one day series). With the World Cup (Twenty20) it could bring a whole new flock of fans to the game, which ultimately is good for cricket. You just have to hope that the 50 Over game and Tests grow on them because there isn't much good in having a few people like Twenty20 and nothing else.

Also with the last point. In a way it is a different sport. In One Day cricket, batsmen grind out innings and when someone reaches a half-century or a hundred it is really appreciated. Bowlers work out batsmen and getting wickets is special not like in Twenty20 when most of the wickets are high outfield catches because batsmen are trying to slog or bowlers bowling batsmen because the batsmen obvisouly miss the ball. So in a way Twenty20 and One Day cricket is completely different. Though Test Cricket is a whole different kettle of fish.

I think its a common misconception that twenty20 happens how you describe it left_hander, its not all about big hits and improvisation, classical players can do well too if they are top notch. A first class player is a first class player no matter what he's playing. What I really like about twenty20 is that the really good players have gone up a level because of it.

Only reason I want to watch it is because I haven't had any bloody cricket since April!!!!!
