Do the English fans rate him? Do they selectors know they have a gem, in having this young bowler?

To me Plunkett is something that the English Cricket team need and something that World Cricket needs. He is an exciting young swing bowler, yes SWING bowler. Now, in the last 3-4 years with Waqar and Wasim not playing Cricket anymore, we haven't seen many genuine swing bowlers, who in the right conditions, could destroy batting lineups in a spell. I love Liam Plunkett, I wish he was Aussie (the poor bloke), he has everything going for him - he's only young, he is a swing bowler, he has good pace, a wicket taker - but he doesn't have the selectors back it seems? After that CB series Final over here in Australia when he absolutely demolished our top and middle order (I must admit, that was probably the best exhibition of swing bowling I have seen in real life - not on old video tapes). That match just showed how much potential he really has, and I expect him to be a 50+ Test match player if the selectors go for him and if he can just improve his accuracy a bit.

What do you guys think of Liam Plunkett's bowling, his future and why he isn't playing Test Cricket?

A lot of people under-estinate his batting too, this guy can really give it a wack and get you some important runs!

A country mile better than Stuart Broad in my opinion.

Broads far more reliable and is improving whilst Plunkett just seems to go through good spells and bad spells. He needs time to develop in the county game, he's got loads of talent as he showed against the Aussies, a few of his wickets with the new ball were brilliant! He was all over the place in the summer though and will have to bounce back from that. He seems to be part of good generation of young English bowlers with the likes of Broad, Rashid, Plunkett, Onions etc coming through. the selectors don't have anything against him, he was just all over the place this summer.

Yeah he still needs to learn his trade.
He was first selected way to early for me and he hasn't been given enough time to leanr about bowling but hopefully the selectors will leave him at county cricket to learnt his trade.

It's nice to have unique players, but you have to offer more than swing and loose deliveries.

Broad over Plunkett any day. Broad has actually performed under pressure e.g. his 99 run partnership with Dimitry against India. Plunkett was horrendous in the West Indies test Series and if England are dropping Strauss it is only fair that Plunkett who has not performed loses his place as well

He is quick (85-90mph), and swings the ball loads which just goes to show how bad his accuracy is. If he cannot take wickets in County Cricket (which he doesn't), he should not play international cricket. I am pretty sure that Moores is under a policy of picking proven performers (Sidebottom, Swann) instead of raw talents like Fletcher. Under this policy, Plunkett won't be in the team for a long time.

I rate Plunkett very highly - at his best he is better than any other bowlers (except Flintoff) in our team. Add that to the fact he's a very competent batsman and theoretically he should be in the team. However as already said he's ridiculously inconsistent. Once that's sorted he would be straight into the team for me. I feel that some of the criticism he gets is undeserved - wasn't it Broad who got hit for 6 sixes? I feel this is because he was a pick of the old, now unpopular coach Fletcher rather than Broad who is supposedly a pick of the great Moores(When in fact Fletcher gave him his debut...).

England defiantly need to look at Plunkett and make sure he is in high performance training etc. e defiantly has natural talent. I hope England play him, he is a lot better then a few of their current bowlers, but just lacks a little bit of experience and accuracy.

I rate him as prospect for the future.

Oh ok, so consistency is the issue and the fact he bowls too many loose deliveries. That will come with age.

I hope England go with him in the future. He is a gem!

I think he is a good bowler and England need bowlers like him.
But I think he is a better bowler then S.Broad.

Hmmm...

Broad more accurate.
Broad better batsman.
Broad doesn't make keeper forget he has a right hand.
Broad has a far better mental attitude.

I think Plunkett has a lot of talent but he has to learn more, he isn't accurate enough to be considered a constant selection, nor is his batting consistent enough.

As for swing bowlers, we have Anderson, Sidebottom and Hoggard. They aren't swing bowlers?

As batsmen they are both pretty even - both average around 20 in both domestic forms of the game. Also mentality is difficult to measure really as Plunkett hasn't really had the oppurtunity to do those batting feats Broad did because when he played the team was worse in batting depth than it is now. Also don't forget he took on the Aussies and destroyed them in the Commonwealth Bank Series.

Yes Broad has more control but Plunkett is one of the most penetrative bowlers around - he's fast and skiddy with prodigious swing(which is good and bad). That said I think Broad deserves to be in the team at the moment.

Yes this isn't every single time, but most of Broads wickets are lucky, well the one's I've seen anyway.

For eg, off the top of my head, Mahela middled one straight to Colly at square off a very bad ball.

I just haven't seen him bowl a match winning, and superb spell.
