Indian Captaincy-Discuss

Erm... yeah, you definitely "pwned " me there. Can you not give him credit for bringing on Sehwag to bowl at a crucial stage in the game ?

Yeh, I don't understand how anyone can dispute that. That decision alone may of decided if India would of won the match or not...

I think Kumble has been setting pretty poor fields really and although he has a good knowledge of his bowlers capabilities and such, I don't think he is anything special captain wise.

Edit:

And by the way, on the whole 'bringing Sehwag onto bowl" issue, I don't think what he did makes him a good captain or a bad captain. He had to change the bowling up, and tried Sehwag. Sehwag bowled the ball guys, Gilchrist could of easily played the shot correctly and nothing would of happened, it was mostly to do with chance of arm, and fortunately for India, Sehwag produced a spinning delivery and Gilly played a bad shot.

Sehwag is the one to captain India but hes not a stable player.

Not too bad a choice, he was quite good in the Challenger Trophy. Kaif is also an excellent captain, but he seems no way near the team now.

Badri could be another contender, once he plays a lot of games (really doubt it). Dhoni will probably be the next captain though (yes!).

Karthik is also an excellent choice for captaincy. Don't think i'm just shooting his name because I like him as a cricketer, but he has experience leading India U-19's and Tamil Nadu.
He's got a great cricketing brain in the mold of Rahul Dravid, and has shown leadership abilities with the bat and responsibility in the field. He seems like a good choice to me.

dhoni hasnt proven himself as a test player but i think by the time kumble retires he will become better.

Kartick should not be in team let alone captaining. The last person to be captain. I think Pathan would be ideal ODI captain. I dont like Dhoni as well. Hes also not our best player. The captain should be one who can hold his place in side first.

Whoa !
The topic has shifted from Kumble to Dhoni-Pathan-Karthik.

As far as the ODI's are concerned,i think Dhoni is doing a pretty good job.
I still feel that Yuvraj should not be the vice-captain.Give it to Irfan / Zaheer.

Totally agree. Yuvraj is one of those guys who should be left alone. Irfan has a very good cricket brain along with Sehwag.

Too bad though Sehwag dont utilizes his head while batting.

Why the hell cant this guy keep his mouth shut. When Dhoni has been trying to clear air about ODI selection he goes out in media and speaks that team is affected by selection.

Well,to be fair the other bowlers must have been tired.
You can't keep on bowling with your full-time bowlers only.

If you are criticising Kumble for bringing on Sehwag, why not criticize Ponting for giving the ball to Symonds and Clarke ?

Kaif is also an excellent captain, but he seems no way near the team now.

I have no odubt in saying, had Kaif been around when Dravid gave up the job,the Test as well ODI captaicny would have been given to him.

With the current form Dhoni is in,Karthik would have been a better choice. :p

Yes, technically sound and solid batsman shouldn't even be close to being in the team, especially those with balanced heads athletic bodies.

Technique to guide bowls from fast bowlers to slips.

If you think hes best from India out there then good luck man. There will be atleast 100 more good batsmen then him in Under 19 squads.

He was certainly in contention to lead India, but for some BCCI lobby,he missed out.
I'm sure, had India not won the T20 World Cup under Dhoni, the cpataincy would have gone to KKD.

Kumble's negative captaincy was shown once again today since he pretty much let Clarke and Ponting get away early in the first session. With the ball spinning and two good spinners in the side, he should of had an aggressive field and tried to take wickets.

India really don't have too many options when it comes to captaincy. Perhaps Ganguly can possibly come back since India were a good unit with him captain and he seems to have really secured his place in the test side.

Dhoni cannot really be chosen as captain in tests since keeping in hot conditions in places like India and Australia is tough work as it is and its mentally hard to keep wicket and captain at the same time.

Sehwag is a good captain for his domestic side in India but he hasn't quite got his place back yet since he really needs a good performance to really cement his place back in the side. He is a good bowler to go with his aggressive batting and has performed well on this tour so hopefully for an Indian point of view that they keep Sehwag in the side and if he can perform well enough, can perhaps be given the captaincy.
