Thank you for rejoining us in this abrupt 20/20 game between Sri Lanka and Bermuda, Matt West's first game in charge. After 10 overs the Sri Lankans were 78 for 1, question was could they go above 160???
It started well, as in the 12th Over, Sanath managed to get to 50, and what a knock it was as he dispatched the bowling all over the place. The Kandy crowd stood and applauded the legend, with Mr West also exstatic.
At the other end Mahela Jayawardene was playing very well, these two were running between the wickets very well, which helped bring the hundred up on the penultimate ball of the 12th over.
The party didn't last long however as very next ball Sanath was out to leverock who bowled a leg stump yorker. Sanath went for it, and missed sending the stump cartwheeling over the ground. He recieved a standing ovation, but hit the ground in anger, as he felt he should have scored more. Although we are sure he has guarenteed his place to england.
The new man in, is proclaimed to be the next generation of Sri Lankan, cricket 19 year old Charlie Kapugedra. He started off nervy, playing and missing a few times. But he gradually starting run about, before smashing two consecutive siexes of the bowling of Cann. Both were sent long over cover.
But he soon fell for 19, after he poorly called another run, and was not even in the frame, when the bails were removed.
The crowd wanted Murali, and as the saying goes "ask and you shall recieve," to everyones delight out stepped Murali. Matt West being a fan man certainly pleased a few people.
Jayawardene was on strike. So far in this innings he had diposited 3 sixes, all of them monsters and bought up his half century with a brilliantly timed dab down to 3rd man. The crowd stood and applauded a magnificient fans knock.
The next over Murali was on strike, and we knew he wasn't going to block. 1st ball he gave himself room and unleashed a big heave over cover for 4, when the ball came down it had snow on it. 2nd ball he went for the same shot but the man came round to cut it off, giving him 2 runs. His 3rd ....and final ball, was straight and Murali went down the ground, but it was met with a fantastic diving catch. Murali's entertainement (on the batting front) was over, and so out walked another youngster Michael Vandort.
The last over Jayawardene hit 2 consecutive 4s and a big six, but off the last ball, attempting to go straight for a six, he was caught on the boundary. His magnificient knock was over, but he recieved a huge applause from the corwd as he and Vandort walked off the field. They were ready to bowl and hopefully gain a comprehensive victory.
Here are the stats from the game, the scorecard, the batting stats and the manhatten graph:
Sri Lanka: 184 for 5 off 20 overs (Jayawardene 72, Jayasuriya 57)
Vandort 2*
Attapatu 0*
