The Qatar Cricket Association has announced Qatar's 15-man squad for the 2002 ASCON Asia Cup. Basheer Rashed will continue to lead the side after his strong individual performance in recently concluded Club World Cup for Al Daayen and hope it transpire to team success in the tournament. Yousuf Musabah misses out from their last ODI squad in his place Hisham Ali Al-Rawi earns the maiden call. He will be second wicket keeper in the squad and might covers as back up to Ghulam Mohamed.

The Chinese Cricket Association confirms its fifteen man roster for the upcoming 2002 ASCON Asia Cup following some minor deliberation. Speculation arose following the suspension of Jin Xing that Shaanxi allrounder Mao Shuren would be brought into the final roster considering he is a like for like replacement however it appears that the CCA is contempt on its current centrally contracted players and elected to not bring in anyone new. The only major question that could of been asked was whether China would elect to go with batting depth at the top of the order or keeping five pure bowlers in the squad, with the latter being what ended up being chosen which results in Cao Gang being dropped from the side entirely in favor of Xu Yun.

China is set to go forward into the first game of their Asian Cup campaign with a fully loaded team with the only notable surprises being that Lei Shan coming back into the team at #6 to replace Jin Xing, giving full reigns to Bai Chun to be China's #6 on the bowling depth chart whilst also giving some additional stability in the middle order.
