MATCH REPORT
The match started out with Graeme Smith (The South African Captain) winnings the toss and electing to bat, this coin toss would've been a good toss to lose, with McGrath taking control early with a wicket when the score was only a measly 13 runs. Some erratic bowling from Ian Harvey compensated for the early loss being 1/29 after the fourth over, but a good maiden over with not one bad ball from MacGill, and 2 wickets in 2 overs from Warne and MacGill had Australia is the box seat. South Africa were struggling to get any sort of composure but when Symonds was introduced into the attack on the last over of the innings Smith and Dipenaar pounced, getting the score over a defendable 70 and we had a game on our hands.
You could tell Australia meant business straight away, with Hayden the tall Left Hand Batsman from Queensland hitting a beautiful square cut off the first delivery of the innings for 4 runs. Runs came fluently for this Australian side, but Shaun Pollock bowled a rip snorter of a ball to Gilchrist and got him clean bowled for 18. An inform Ricky Ponting stepped up to the crease and smashed his way to 13 of 6 deliveries before losing compure and becoming Nel's first victim of the innings. Symonds was sent in to keep the run rate alive and over 12 an over, but it didn't help that much, stuggling to put bat on ball, but he finally did and his first scoring shot was a great cover drive to the boundary. Hayden tried to loft a well pitched up ball over the infield to get Symonds on strike but to no avail hit it straight down dipenaar's throat and was out for 31. Bevan was sent in when Australia only need 2 runs for victory, he tried to hit a big six over mid on, but mistimed it, and it went straight in the air, but luckily for him the fielder didn't pay enough attention and it slipped straight through his fingers. The scores were level and Australia had another 20 balls left. So the very next ball Symonds finished it off with an on-drive six. Australia won by 6 runs.

MATCH REPORT
Lara won the toss and elected to field first on the bowler friendly wicket. Hayden starred early hitting boundaries all over the ground and smashing two huge sixes over mid on. Gilchrist was a bit slow to get off the mark, and the drop chance of Gilchrist when he was on 10 could of proved costly. Hayden and Gilchrist set a first wicket partnership of 41, which could of really been the beginning of a big score. But a run of wickets and some good bowling restricted Australia's score to only 80 runs, a defenable score on this sort of wicket.
McGrath and Gillespie bowled a good line to the West Indian opening batsmen, restricting them to only 3.75 runs an over off the first 4 overs. Michael Clarke and Shane Warne were introduced into the attack and straight away they took to the two spinners, scoring 50 runs in 4 overs (12.5 r/o). West Indies now only needed 14 runs off the next two overs, but a great wicket maiden over from Ian Harvey brought the Required run rate from 7 runs and over to 14 and it was looking just out of the reach for West Indies. Symonds was brought into the attack for the deciding over and straight away Ricardo Powell hit him straight through the covers to the boundary to reduce the deficit to 10. He then three deliveries later carressed a magnificent late cut down to third man for two runs. They now needed eight of the next two balls, and he smashed a slog sweep for another boundary. It was down to the last ball, which symonds pitched outside the off stump of Powell, but a rush of blood went to his head and tried yet again another slog sweep. This one he didnt connect two and the Australian's appealed, it was denied and the match was won by Australia.

MATCH REPORT
Australia won the toss and elected to field on a pitch which was a good wicket for both batting and bowling. Harvey has been economical throughout all his World Championship matches, but in this game the New Zealanders got to him. Although he got a wicket in the second ball of the match, his next 5 deliveries went for 22 runs including 3 sixes. But Jason Gillepie, the not so economical bowler this Championship for Australia had finally found the right line and length, picking up 3 wickets for only 5 runs off his two overs, he was the best of all the bowlers. One of stand out piece of fielding was the run out of Chris Harris for a Diamond Duck (0 Runs off 0 Balls). After the two opening bowlers stopped operating the spinners (Shane Warne & Cameron White) and got their shot at these New Zealand batsmen. Warne and White tied down both ends only getting 23 runs hit off their 4 overs. But MacGill was a different story, 3 runs off his first over, and 24 runs and 1 wicket off his second over courtesy of Jacob Oram. Their final total was 8/88.
Australia had a tough task ahead of them chasing 89 runs, they had only scored more than 88 runs one time in this whole competition. And their start was not good, with Shane Bond ripping through the Australian top order. At one stage of the first over they were 2/1, and needed a batsman to step up. Matthew Hayden was thats batsman and as wickets tumbled around him he reached 64* off 28 deliveries hitting eight 4's, and four 6's. The fifth wicket partnership between Hayden and Bevan reached 61 runs at the end of the innings, it was the highest fifth wicket partnership of the competition. Australia won quite convincingly by 6 wickets. The "Man of the Match" was awarded to Matthew Hayden for his 64*, and revival of the Australian Innings. The next match for Australia is the first Semi-Final against South Africa.
