I didn't realise it was two groups of four, that's a better than a massive super 8.
One Super 8 group would mean a massive tournament. Could also have "virtual groups" like in the IPL, where they play only 3 opponents, but all 8 teams are on one points table. Could carry over points from group stage too. Plenty of options.

Yeah, it is confirmed for WI/USA 2024. 5 groups of four, top two go to Super 8 in two different groups, then semis. 6 likely games for India, Associates go directly into the tournament.
Win-Win
The only change I'd like to see is the Super8s making way for the traditional knockouts. Wonts happen, but that'd make matters far interesting and who knows - anyone could win the WT20 then

Yeah, but that would mean the big boys at the ICC willing to risk losing to a lower ranked team in a knockout

Yeah, quarter finals would be great but the need of greed is more important than the excitement that knock outs can bring.

I was just looking at the qualification process for the next tournament, because I remember there being some controversy among associates.

As one of the hosts is the USA, there will be a place up for grabs to another qualifier from the Americas (so there's an assumption Canada are basically getting a free place).

Then there's the top 8 from this tournament (which is a rule I like a lot).

Then, there's two places from T20i rankings (The remaining places, via the automatic qualification route, will be taken by the next two highest-ranked teams in the ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings as of 14 November 2022).

So, it looks like Zimbabwe, by qualifying for the second stage will have a good chance of securing rankings qualification. Unless, Ireland or Netherlands take some big scalps.

Finishing in the top 8 for Ireland or Netherlands would be huge, because there's only two European qualification spots, so one of the European teams in this tournament is likely to miss out.

Scotland and Namibia's big results might help but probably not given Zimbabwe qualifying for the Super 12s.

If the qualification went with the current rankings, which could change a bit after this tournament, 2024 could look like this (the teams in yellow are those in the Super 12s:

Netherlands missing out would be big, after making Super 12 this year

Netherlands missing out would be big, after making Super 12 this year
It's probably a consequence of how little T20i cricket they and Scotland have played. In between the World Cups Scotland have played 2 (less cricket because of their success of qualifying for this year!), Ireland have played 20. They have equal ranking points and are not far behind Zimbabwe. A few more matches and they might have been closer to those rankings qualification spots. Netherlands only played 7 and I think most of them were in the qualifiers for this and when they aren't at full strength.

It's the good and bad of opening up the tournament, especially when USA hosting means the lowest ranked side (of the 22 I listed) could be there instead of a test playing nation (Ireland). I think global qualifiers, as they had for this year would probably have been fairer, given the imbalance of teams across the world. But maybe it's the ICC being cheap again. :lol

The financial impact of missing out could be really big on teams like Scotland and Netherlands too.

Pakistan playing Netherlands and Zimbabwe at Perth, where the weather will be good. Playing India and South Africa on the east coast, with significant chances of two washouts.

Bangladesh at Adelaide. Don’t know about the weather there, because it’s a little removed from Melbourne and Sydney, but not as much as Perth

Looks like they want to avoid England in semifinal and wanted to bag only 2 points from this 2 games and finish 2nd. Pakistan playing smart :lol

If those two are washouts, and we win the other three, then we end up first probably
