A journal entry- Life in the AFL

Nice work getting the tigers! Good to see you don't need to move far. Good luck mate! Awesome writing, kiu!

Journal Entry no.7 - Off to Punt Rd

With everything set and done, i went home after a HUGE day at the Telstra Dome, meeting with the Richmond coaching panel, and some of the players that were their, as part of the leadership group.
It was a awsome day in the end, when i found out i'll be playing with the Tigers... i got home off the train, and i walked in the door... the whole lounge room was set up with Black and Yellow streamers, ballons and Paint.... i thought to myself, "What the hell is going on here".....

My parents, and all my friends, all my mates from my old footy club Marong were all standing in the lounge room, and cheered congradulations... WOW i did not expect this... Everybody saw it on the news apparently, that a local Bendigo boy had been picked up in the AFL....I was a hit of the town.. Everything was going perfectly.

A couple of Hours later - I had a sit down and had a think.. I went over to my parents, and say them down and told them what i had been thinking... "Now guys, i know it's all and well i got picked up by a team that is close to Bendigo, so i can go to training and that reguarly...But to be honest, i want to see whats out their.. i want to explore the world.. so i have decided, i am moving to Melbourne to reduce the cost and everything for all of us.. I will rent a apartment in Punt rd, and live by myself for a while, and who knows if i am lucky, might find a girl along the way :p"....

That was my final decision. So the next couple of days i was apartment shopping. Lucky i had dad their to help me out with some of the cash benifits, and i found this place just a couple of minutes away from Punt rd, where Richmond train... The next day it was that day that every kid loves.. The first time they move out of home. I had to say goodbye to my parents, as i was leaving at 11am in the morning. I had my Richmond jumper on, and i hoped on the train....

I thought to myself when i got onto the train in Bendigo.... This is where my life begins......

haha thanks for the comments guys, I am still in denial wether to use a game to to do this story, or just to make it up by myself. Most of the stuff i am going to write about, aren't actually AFL (game related)

Journal entry no.8 - Meeting the Coach

Lucky enough for me, the train stopped right out the front of Punt rd. I slightly grinned to myself and thought.. "This is where im going to spend the next 10-15 years of my life".. It was a beautiful looking arena. I walked over the oval, which seemed to take a long time.
I walked into the enterance, and saw a ragged old hag of a lady sitting there chewing on a piece of gum.. she was looking down reading a stupid dolly magizine... I cleared my throat for attention, "excuse me" i said politly. "Can you tell me where Terry Wallace's office is?"
"Thrid door to your left" said the glasses girl.... "thankyou" i replied in return..

I walked down the hall and saw a door with TERRY WALLACE written across the top of it.. I knocked on the door and slowly peaked my head through.
"Excuse me sir, you wanted to see me" i said quietly.
"I have been waiting for you Mr. Sumner" said Wallace with his back towards me, and with him facing the window looking out onto the ground.
"It's nice to meet you sir" i said.... "Please please, call me Terry" as he turned around and stood up, he came over and gave me a handshake..

"Now Hayden, you know how truly proud i am that we have you on our team, we have been following your work for a long time now, and we have shown a lot of interest in you, and now here you are, an official Tiger player, not i don't want you to think this is going to be a walk in the park, i mean sure, it is all well and good that you are a AFL player, but in the end, a lot of work has to be done, to get you an AFL game, and i am just warning you now.. this isn't going to be easy"

"I think i can handle it sir, as i said with a grin"......

Chapter 9: First Training Session

So i walked into the change rooms down at Punt rd. As i opened the door, i saw standing their with number 12 on his back.. he turned around from the sound of the door and looked around.. and their he was, Matthew Richardson was standing their talking to Nathan Brown..

"So your the new kid right? Welcome kiddo"

Richo, i said aloud!!!, how ya going mate?, just to try and make myself feel right at home. Very very nice to meet you, and you too Nathan...

"You too mate, so how's life going, excited ya joined us kid?"

Yeah mate, haven't been more excited to be honest with ya, and i look forward to working with you both, your the Captain yeah Richo?

"Yeah mate i am, and i gotta see what ya got, before we introduce ya into some games, there is training in about half an hour, so get yaself ready, and show us what you got mate."

So i got my stuff ready, and headed out to training with Rico and Browny, as i haven't been able to introduce myself to any of the other boyz, well because i've been too busy making myself introduced to Richo and Browny haha...
It was a perfect day for training, and i went onto the crowd. A little crowd came out to watch us, for our first training session, and mine as well. I wasn't nervous, i was just raring and ready to go and have a kick around the ground and do some drills. I didn't try and impress straight away as it was the first training, so everyones skills will be down to the crap.
The session went really well, as i came back alive. It was some hard work out their, but with a good night rest, i should be alright by tomorrow morning. Although i will be pretty sore :p

Eughh, change the text colour. It hurts my eyes. Nice to see you met Richo and Browny.
