Strong squad there for India, I expect Pakistan to face some hard times.

Great presentation Tom!

Badrinath is one of my favourite Indian players... I'm going to be rooting for the other team until you decide to pick him. And yes, Tom. I have 'contacts'. ;)

Seriously though, another awesome update to start this story off. As normal the quality of your updates are very high and the writing is very good. Looking forward to seeing future updates.

Pakistan Announce Squad

In a joint interview. Shoaib Malik and Geoff Lawson, announced the 20 man squad chosen by Pakistan to face India. There has been much talk about the Pakistan squad being off a lower quality then the Indian one, however, looking at this squad there are quite a few players that the Indian team are going to have to look out for.

Worringly as the Pakistan squad was announced, reports began to filter in that there had been another blast only 10 miles away from where the press conference had been taking place. Luckily no one was hurt.

Here is the Pakistan squad:

Pakistan 20 Man Squad

Shoaib Malik (C)
Kamran Akmal (wk)
Shoaib Akhtar
Ifthikar Anjum
Salman Butt
Misbah-ul-Haq
Umar Gul
Younus Khan
Mohammad Yousuf
Fawad Alam
Sohail Tanvir
Shahid Afridi
Danish Kaneria
Taufeeq Umar
Sohail Khan
Bazid Khan
Nasir Jamshed
Mansoor Amjad
Sarfraz Ahmed
Mohammad Asif

So that is the Pakistan squad that will be facing India for this tour. There are some very skilled players in that squad. Shahid Afridi can hit a ball a mile, Mohammad Yousuf and Yousuf Khan are true masters of the technique and Shoaib Akhtar, Sohail Tanvir and Umar Gul can really put pace on the ball. India will have to be careful as this team looks like it could be capable of causing an upset.

This is what Geoff Lawson had to say, on the selection of the squad and the Mohammad Asif, drug's scandal:

Geoff Lawson said:
Picking just 20 lads to go on a tour is always tricky. There are always going to be some who feel hard done by. With the selction of this squad I feel that everyone who deserved a place, has got a place. I have spoken to those players who have missed out, and I think that they now know what they have to work on. I am more than confident that if they work hard, they will be featuring in future tours.

Regarding the selection of Mohammad Asif. I have spoken to him directly about what happened, and he has shown me his version of events, plus some pretty conclusive evidence. Therefore I fail to see why he should not be selected, and as long as he continues to train hard, perform well and generally give 100% he will be pushing for selection.

Well, tough talk by Geoff Lawson there. He seems to be pretty certain that Mohammad Asif is innocent of those drug charges and that he should be allowed to be a member of the squad. Although many people have written Pakistan off, before this tour even begins, don't be so sure. There are some very good players in that squad, and India should definetly be very wary of them.

Shoaib Malik also spoke at the press conference, about what he reckons, Pakistan's chances are, and what he would like to achieve during the series:

I have spoken to every single member of this squad, and I have made it clear to them, how difficult this series is going to be. India are Pakistan's greatest rivals and there is a lot of pride at stake. I would say, if we were to beat India, in Pakistan, it would be one of the greatest moments in my cricketing career. But it is going to be tough. The 20/20 will be a good taster session for us. If we can snatch a win there, I think it could set the tone very nicely for the test matches.

Regarding my own game, I feel at the peak of it. My batting feels very strong, every single shot seems to come out of the middle. I'm planning on making quite a few big knocks. My bowling also feels pretty nice. I'm getting quite a bit of turn and have been giving some of our lads trouble in the nets ;) Altogether I feel ready for this series. It is going to be good fun and I just wish India good luck. They are going to need it

Well, well, well. Some very tough talk there by Shoaib Malik. He seems very confident about his own game and Pakistan's chances.

This looks like it is going to be a cracking tour.

Coming up....Key Battles!!!!

Stay tuned
