I don't think Dravid is any more impressive (but no less) than Ponting. His ability to occupy the crease and bat forever with sublime concentration is offset by his dour and defensive style.

Dravid can unlesh and attack. His 80 odd off 60 balls against the Lankans showed that. He is just playing the role the team needs him too. Do you really think India needs another aggressive batsman with Dhoni, Sehwag, Sachin, Yuvraj, Pathan and Ganguly? :

And Ponting is good. Period. I'll never consider him to be great. Martyn and Gilchrist are better batsmen.

Lol, its funny to see you take a stab at Sachin every opportunity you get, langerrox. Ponting is a really good batsman. The only reason people fail to see him as great is because he doesn't have a bunch of records under his belt. That's when people will see him as great. As for the stabs at Dravid, he is one of the better test batsmen in the world. His 'dour style' makes for almost perfect technical cricket. And of course, some of those magnificent cover drives, on-drives and the like must make everyone's lives inconcievably more annoying.

Ponting is a great batsman but he's not in the same league as Lara and Tendulkar. He's at the same level as Inzi, Kallis and Dravid. Ponting is by no means a slogger. And I think a batsman of Martyn's calibre and elegance never should have been dropped. :

Ponting has not faced the best bowling attack. He has not performed exceedingly well against quality spinners either!
Lara faced the best of attacks, (excluding walsh/ambrose) and played spinners with ease, both warne and murali.
Lara played quality innings in demanding situations, without team support.

Lara easily outperformed ponting. Lara will be among the top 10 batsmen to have ever played cricket, i don't think ponting will.

thats what i was going to say!! The best bowling attacks of the Ricky Ponting era have been, of course, Australia and pakistan. Already, he doesn't have to play one of those leathel attacks! He doesn't have to takle McGrath and Lee, not to mention Warne! Compared to Tendulkar or Lara, whose countries bowling attacks have not been the best, and that they have had to face the top bowlers.

And fielding ponting is by far the best fielder and one of the best in the world..

Its fairly obvious that Langerrox is being a bit biased. He says Martyn is more elegant than Sachin? I mean come on!!! Stop talking utter nonsense. Do you even watch Sachin? You think 13700 odd odi runs and 10200 odd test runs come by not being elegant? Besides, its not even about looks...keep quiet. Stop being biased and then resume this discussion. As for the fielding, Ponting is good, but not the best in Australia-Symonds, and definitely not the world. Ponting is a good fielder no doubt! But after Collingwood, Gibbs and most of the other South Africans, Kaif, Yuvraj, Sami, Bravo among others. So really, you should cool it.
