The Adelaide Crows have their second trip down to Melbourne this year. They face the Blues on Saturday afternoon at the MCG. Carlton who have had a pretty decent start to the year are sitting 6th on the AFL ladder, with 2 wins, and a loss, and also having their bye.
The Blues with their star studded midfield of Judd, Scotland, Murphy and Gibbs , will all be hard to tag for the Crows. The Blues do have a young forward line, with Lachie Henderson, Luke Mitchell and Shaun Hampson up their, so the Crows could see that as a weakness and use their defenders to build their attacks. Rutten, Johncock and Andy Otten will try and drive through the half back line and setup their attack from there.

The Crows have made 2 changes from the side that went down to the Bulldogs. Phil Davis and Richard Douglas both come into the side, while Daniel Talia and Rory Sloane have both been omitted back to the SANFL to gain some form.

Crows win their 4th of the year


The Adelaide Crows have continued their amazing start to the 2011 season with a win against the Blues at the MCG in Round 5. Adelaide who has now 4 games for the year with their new coach Hayden Sumner are certainly proving a lot of experts wrong, who said with loosing all their experience players last year that the Crows won't be a competitive team this year. But now sitting in the top 4 at the end of 5 rounds, they couldn't of asked for a better start.
It was a very close contest through the entire match, but it saw the Crows run away with a 9 point victory in front of 55, 335 at the G.
The Crows who have been pretty woeful in their goal kicking this season, certainly couldn't miss this afternoon. Adelaide ended the match kicking 19.4. 6.0 in the first quarter led the charge. Jason Porplyzia was good in that first quarter and got away from his Carlton opponent. Porplyzia slotted home his first goal from a mark inside the forward 50, and then later bobbed up for his second, with a classy left foot skidder along the ground.
Adelaide went into the main change leading by 3 points, but then they outscored their opponents to run out 9 point winners. Jason Porplyzia played his best game for the season, kicking 4 goals, while Taylor Walker continued his dominant season as the main forward kicking another 3. New recruit Sam Jacobs and young draftee Brodie Smith both chipped in with 2.
For the Blues, forward/ruckman Shaun Hampson slotted home 3 goals, while small forwards Geff Garlett and Eddie Betts kicked 4 goals between them.


Influential Players

Matthew Kruezer is starting to show people why he was the number one draft pick a couple of seasons ago, and today, against the Crows, Kreuzer showed why. Kreuzer finished with 24 possesions (9 kicks, 15 handballs) took 6 uncontested marks, had 31 hitouts and kicked a goal for his club. Kreuzer was up against his old team mate, Sam Jacobs who was traded to the Crows at the end of last season because of players like Kreuzer and Hampson.
For the Crows, half forward Chris Knights was in sensational form and was a unstopable player for the Crows. Knights had 31 touches (17 kicks, 14 handballs), kicked 2 important goals late in the game, had 4 clearences and went inside the 50 on more then 7 occassions. It was certainly Knights best game for the club said coach Sumner

Adelaide and Geelong have had very similar starts to the 2011 season. Geelong are sitting second on the AFL ladder with 4 wins from 4 matches, while Adelaide sit 5th on the ladder with 4 wins from 5 games. The Crows last game was against the Blues where they won by 9 points, while also having wins against Melbourne, Brisbane and Richmond. While the Cats have had all wins against, Carlton (38), Western Bulldogs (35), Melbourne (39), Brisbane (16 points).
Both teams also have some very similar stats in players. 17 goals are their respective leading goal kickers. Taylor Walker for Adelaide and Cameron Mooney for Geelong. Geelong prove to strong for Crows

The Geelong Cats have gone on to win their 5th consecutive match with coach Chris Scott. Geelong out classed the Crows with experience and ran away with a 27 point win. Geelong with their premiership experience were down by 7 points at the half time break, but kicked 12 goals to 7 in the last half. Premiership players such as Cameron Mooney (4 goals), Paul Chapman (37 possessions), Cameron Ling (26 possessions) and Joel Corey (35 possessions) were all outstanding for the Cats this afternoon.
Excitment machine, Shannon Byrnes had a amazing 10 inside 50's for the Cats, and amassed 31 possessions himself, certainly establishing himself as a permanant in this Geelong outfit.

For the inexperienced Crows side, they played pretty well up until half time, but then the more experienced heads of the Cats came into play. Scott Thompson who is one of the more experienced Crow, had 31 touches to lead the way ahead of promising youngster Jared Petrenko. Petrenko wearing McLeod's old number is certainly living up to the expectation of the number and the last player to wear it.
Andy Otten was solid in defence, picking up 23 possessions, and he is starting to look in 2009 form, where he was brilliant.

Some injury news from the game, Geelong will be without their big man, Brad Ottens for the next 5 weeks, when Ottens limped off the ground and the club confirmed he has tore his achillies and will miss over a month.

Adelaide's Jason Porplyzia has certainly found some form over the past couple of weeks. Another 3 goals for Porplyzia this afternoon against the Cats, and led the Crows goal kicking for the game. Porplyzia was pretty quiet in the first couple of matches for the Crows this season, but has certainly put his head up in the last few, and was solid against the Cats with a 16 possession game. Porplyzia only kicked the 1 goal in the first 4 matches, but has booted 7 goals in the last 2 to bring his total up to 8 for the season.

Geelongs veteran Paul Chapman was outstanding for the Cats against the Crows. Chapman was best on ground with 37 possessions (13 kicks, 24 handballs), had 4 tackles, kicked a goal and cleared the ball from the centre on 4 occasions. Chapman who has played in a premiership is enjoying playing more time in the midfield for the Cats, with the absence of Gary Ablett, he is looking more fit and getting much more of the ball.
