Why groom Lee? Ponting is clearly the best number 3 around and he is the about the same age as Lee. Given Lee is a fast bowler he will retire a lot earlier than Ponting. Also you have to think about how tired Lee will be cause he puts in way more effort than Pathan.

not for the whole series! Just give him one or maybe 2 matches and see how he flares with the new ball. Maybe on the rare occasion australia are down early and have lost 6 wickets in 30 overs!! (it could happen, considering how good the teams are becoming these days). then you have some one with some experiance at the top with the bat. Someone who knows at least a little bit on how to conserve an innings. That's what india are doing with pathan and now days hes been bowlin in the low 140's!! I know thats not as fast as lee but it's a thought...

Thats what Hussey is down the order for. And if White gets a chance he too knows how to bat when a team has collasped.
I like the idea but with Ponting at 3 there is no point. He is aggressive, he can face the new ball what more would we need. India's case is different they don't really have a number 3 so they can trial guys there.

Lol, they have too many! Dhoni, Kaif, Ganguly, Sehwag, Yuvraj, Pathan, Yadav, Venu, Raina, Gambhir....LOL

but if Australia have wrapped up a series allready, like say they're leading 4-1 (presuming they're playing 7 matches and i don't know how many they're playing,) you could rest ponting and then give lee a shot then.

Lol yea thats what I mean. You guys don't have one fixed number 3.
I agree though if we were up in a series or may be playing Bangladesh then we could give him a shot.

Has anyone noticed that Brett Lee's batting technique has improved out of site? In England he did well but his technique was pretty sad and Glenn Mcgrath looked alot better. Since the first test his batting technique has been awesome!:D

Brett Lee has always had a good technique. Warne is the one whose technique should be up for question.
