Mixed Reaction to New Format
After Friday's news that 4 teams will be removed from the ICC World Twenty20 to incorparate the new knockout format there has been a mixed reaction throughout the world both for and against the idea.
Cricket Australia
"The idea is a good one and could show some unexpected results, it's a shame for the four teams that will not participate but life goes on. We can't be sympathetic to those all the time, we have to prepare for the one day series against the West Indies and then we will name our squad."
ECB
"The idea is a shocking one. The ICC have made a terrible decision. They have just said that the 8 best nations can be involved. If we didn't need the practice we would walk out. We hope that the ICC make amends to the four nations by allowing them back in for the next tournament, they should remove the teams that make it to the semi finals, that will also guarantee a different winner every year.
BCCI
"Fantastic idea, well done ICC, now the next move from here is have an official ICC IPL. This makes it easier for Team India to win their second World Twenty20. The ICC have our full backing for every move they do now, still Afridi should've been banned for the whole World T20, not just the series against Australia."
New Zealand Cricket
"We are ashamed by the ICC's decision, we are seriously considering boycotting the tournament. With this decision, an announcement will be made in the next 72 hours. A World Twenty20 isn't complete without shocks by associates. This is just a slogout with the 8 best teams in world cricket. I think this could impact our participation in future tournaments."
PCB
"The ICC are a massive joke. The good decision they made was only banning Afridi for the T20s against Australia. First they strip us of hosting the Champions Trophy, then, they remove us as hosts of the World Cup and now, they tarnish the reputation of the World Twenty20 by doing this! Are the BCCI working alongside the ICC? Because this sounds like the type of thing that they would do. After banning Pakistan players from IPL 3 this comes along and makes us more suspicious."
Cricket South Africa
"We are not fussed by the decision, if that's what the ICC think can help the progression of Twenty20 cricket then so be it. Yes it is harsh on the nations missing out but that's how life is and you've got to get over it. We've got our team fighting for number one in the test rankings so we can't really be worrying about a little change in format for a World Cup that's three months away!"
Sri Lanka Cricket
"We can't go on complaining about this, yes it's a poor decision that will cause uproar but we weren't kicked out, so it won't bother us as much. Our aim in the tournament is to go one better than last year and win. We were unlucky in that final but you've got to take your chances and we didn't."
WICB
"This decision will definately overshadow the whole tournament, we aren't letting a stupid decision by the ICC go and ruin a great tournament. The ICC needs to put this right or we won't host the tournament. If they had to replace anyone, why not teams that have a chance of dominating? Don't replace the minnows, I can see why most cricket fans won't be happy."
