This pic of
James Pattinson may be a bit misleading as in this game, rather than a Heat player, he was a Heat destroyer. Three early wickets left Brisbane with a recovery mission, as the slow partnership between Joe Burns and Moises Henriques highlighted. Both reached their fifties, Burns off a painstaking 251 balls, but didn't go much further, and both to J-Pat too. Only some late slogging from Mitch Starc got Brisbane to a still-inadequate 195.

For just a moment, the Strikers innings looked like it could go similarly south thanks to the dismissal of the openers early. But that brought
Steve Smith and Jon Wells together and they weren't parted until the score was a much prettier 3/220. Smith played a free-flowing and quick-scoring innings, while Wells committed to building the innings and scored at a run every third ball. After them, a partnership between Agar and Hunt and a wag of the tail took Adelaide to 447 and a lead of over 250. The bright spot with the ball was Mitch Starc, who took five wickets (albeit having bowled 50 overs).

Similarly to the Adelaide innings, Brisbane's second one was dominated by one stand - in this case, the fourth between Moises Henriques and
Marnus Labuschagne. After coming in at 3/9 (all again going to James Pattinson), Marnus made up for his first innings failure with a well-crafted ton, while Henriques scored 83. But Marnus eventually departed, and then Henriques was run out. This sparked a most-Brisbane-esque late collapse of 6/7. Wickets were shared around the quicks, but two for Pattinson confirmed his ten-wicket match. As a result of the collapse, Adelaide didn't even need to bat again.
