Australian Domestic Cricket

The Futures League as a strict u-23 competition didn't really work, so by extension I don't see much of an issue with players playing as long as they're good enough. If they're all young players, then they're only being exposed to each other. Older players who might still be good enough to dominate the 2nd XI are exactly what exposure should mean.

Will they be playing the full tournament? Or only a couple of games in between the NZ domestic season?

If those two play then my line up would be

McCullum wk
Hayden
Hopes
Forrest
Lynn
Christian
Broad
Cutting
Neser
Swan
Vettori

----------

Futures league T20 going on at the moment. Some interesting players involved. Brad Hogg is playing for WA, Lee Carsledine and Bryce McGain playing for South Australia.

As the BBL teams are franchises and separate from the states, is it right that these older experienced players are getting experience playing in the 2nd XI for the states? Taking the spot of a young fella who needs exposure to a higher level than grade cricket?

I'm not necessarily saying it is wrong, just posing the question to you all.

Hey mate,I don't agree with Vettori at no 11.He is a more than handy batsman at no 8 for New Zealand and RCB in the IPL.He's played some crucial knocks there. And it would probably be better to take Ryan Harris instead of Ryan Broad.:)

Dunno why we're playing Nevill when we have D. Smith in the XI. Would've liked to see Patterson or Maddison or Henriqueson in there instead.

Whoa, big fearsome tweak you from Copeland as he tears WA apart. 4/14

----------

Gonna go ahead and make a prediction, to ensure it won't happen. Ronchi throws the bat at everything and doesn't last long, Robinson digs in and carves out a slow 50, meanwhile Rimmington comes in and blasts 120 off a hundred or so.

And to think the alternative for Copeland was to be named in the Aus squad as the drinks boy.

----------

Robinson almost at his obligatory 50, Rimmington better get a move on if he wants to bring up that tonne.

Why do they keep crapping on about Nevill's batting? He's done well in FC, but averaging 10 with a HS of 17 in ODD. Give D. Smith the gloves back and play a proper batsman.

Was surprised when he came out ahead of KP in the Shield match. I haven't seen enough of Nevill in this format to comment but either him or Dan Smith have to go, KP is ripe for the picking.

I haven't seen a great deal of him either, doesn't stop me from commenting though :p They were hyping him up a bit before he came out and mentioned this season has been a good one with the bat, which is true for FC, not so for one day - two DNB's, a duck and a 16.

He's making me eat my words now though with an unbeaten 30 odd.

Haha :lol Beer drops S. Smith for his 50. All the sweeter after their little altercation earlier.

He seems like Steve Smith, needs more time at the crease rather than a big hitter. Rorher needs to go, hasn't done anything in this format.

Yeah Rorher's been disappointing, then giving him the captaincy on top of that. I'll have to throw some Nev-esque criticisms at him next game if he's there, seemed to provide some inspiration this time around.

I've thought for the last few matches that they'd be better off playing D. Smith as the keeper, dropping Rohrer or Cruickshank and playing Maddinson instead.

Pretty much but Nevill 50 will mean it's over to Dan Smith to do something again. From what I can see Nevill isn't a lower order player like S Smith.

NSW selectors have given the captaincy to the wrong players for this format. SOK is average in 50 over cricket, Rorher likewise.

Cutting has a list a strike rate of about 125. Can hit a massive ball. Neser is an all-rounder who early in the year has made some better than run a ball 30s and 40s and Swan can strike some blows don't the order as well.

I'm not underestimating his value as a batsmen. If it was a 4 dayer i'd have him at no. 8, but 20/20 is a different game. Vettori isn't a big hitter and doesn't have the technique to score big runs really quickly or at least score runs as quickly as the other guys in the team.

I'm assuming that Harris is either injured or on Australian duties. Plus APPARENTLY Broad has made some fair decent 20/20 scores in grade/2nd XI cricket.

Cutting only bowled 9 overs yesterday in the shield match against the Vics, must've picked up an injury. Good thing he wasn't picked for the test.
