Story Australia's Glory Days - 1st ODI - BAN 236 (47) vs AUS 6/240 (47.3)

Inning Report by Nathan Spinks

Australia have hit back after just 2 overs. Nafees was caught out by Ponting, an attempted sweep went horribly wrong due to a sly slower ball from Mitchell Johnson. His departure wasn’t in vain however as Al Hasan raced to 50 runs off just 48 balls including 8 fours and 1 six.
Mahmudullah crumbled for 1 off 12 creating panic in the Tigers camp. 20 runs later, Al Hasan was struck LBW off a Brett Lee spear. Sending him to the sheds for 72 (76) and the Tigers were 4/176 after 36 overs. The very same over Ashraful was out for a duck off 3 balls. 5/176. The next over, Saleh was belting Shane Watson all over the park, though it didn’t last and he was bowled middle stump for 19 (19). 6/186. Watson struck again 2 overs later and S Islam was out for 6 runs and Bangladesh seemed in trouble. 4 wickets had fallen in the space of 3 overs and only 17 runs had been scored. The Watson Train was still full speed ahead as Mortaza was crushed for 4. Johnson put his hand in and destroyed Aziz’s stumps on 11.
Bangladesh had crumpled here at the Sydney Cricket Ground, from a healthy 3/176 to 9/218 in the space of 8 overs. Things seemed ominous for the Tigers today.

Tigers: 236 all out (47 overs)

S Al Hasan – 72
S Nafees – 60

S Watson – 4/35
B Lee – 3/43

That's Bangladesh for you. Johnson really manufactured this one. It'll be interesting to see how the Aussies come out and bat!

25 over Report by Jake McDonald

After a great bowling display, Shane Watson was caught LBW for 8 runs after 6 overs.
Things were looking bleak as the Australian were 1/13 after six, with Phillip Hughes struggling at 5 (25). The Pace was soon picked up though when Australian Captain Ricky Ponting was at the crease, in the next 4 overs Australia were scoring at a run a ball with Ponting scoring 7 of 10 and Hughes 15 off 14 with 4 boundaries.

Just 5 overs later, Ponting nicked the ball to second slip, and headed back to the pavilion for only 16 (31). Australian were 2/54, and needed another 183 runs at 5.2 runs per over. On the 23rd over, Phillip Hughes was clean bowled by Aziz for 48 (65). Australia were back on the ropes at 3/107 at the mid-way point, Michael Clarke and Michael Hussey have a lot of pressure on their shoulders now as they are searching for another 130 runs at 5.2 runs per over. They’re 29 (36) and 4 (7) respectively.

Australia: 3/107 after 25 overs

Phillip Hughes – 48 (65)
Michael Clarke – 29 (36)

T Aziz – 1/10
S Al Hasan – 1/18

Inning Report by Nathan Spinks

Michael Hussey, after just 14 deliveries at the crease was stuck on the pads and sent for and abysmal 7 runs. This wicket put Australia at a seriously disadvantage, needing another 125 runs at 5.3 per over. Australia’s power hitter Andrew Symonds, coming in at number 6 looked to score fast and looked aggressive from the very first ball. The aggression became his undoing as he was plum LBW for 5. Australia’s Wicketkeeper and final defence before the tail in Brad Haddin was padded up and ready to go. The 180 CM Aussie and master in gloves seemed cautious from the onset scoring at roughly a strike rate of 65. Michael Clarke, looking to score at the other end became unstuck at 49 runs. This valuable wicket placing Australia in a hole at 6/145 after 33 overs. Bangladesh were now into the tail and seemed to have the match done and dusted when Mitchell Johnson arrived at the crease......

Along with Mitchell Johnson, Brad Haddin staged a miraculous come back. Mitchell Johnson and Brad Haddin put together a vital and unbeaten 95 run partnership. Brad Haddin scoring 67* and Mitchell Johnson and unbeaten 37* in support. The partnership carrying Australia to 6/240 with 15 balls to spare, and ultimately the victory.

Man Of the Match: Shane Watson

Australia – 6/240 (47.3 overs)
Brad Haddin – 67*
Michael Clarke - 49

S Islam - 2/41
T Aziz – 2/46

A good win for Australia in the end. They made it a little harder but good knocks from Haddin and Johnson got them home in the end.

Can't wait to be honest. This has the potential to be more than just one of the greatest stories on the forum.
