I've recently taken a liking to aviation. I've been watching Air Crash Investigation for about a year or so now but I haven't really gotten into airplanes etc. I'm sure there must be other aviation fans around on this board? Whether you are interested in plane spotting and movements, being a pilot or simply want to tell your trips about being on airplanes etc post in here.

Personally I'm interested in possibly becoming an Air Traffic controller or a Pilot myself. Is anyone currently trying to get there pilot license or going to Uni etc for anything aviation?

I saw we had an Airplane thread but I thought an aviation one would be better as it covers everything to do with aviation.

I enjoy hot-air balooning, I think you could say it covers aviation. My uncle has one and I've been a few times with him and my cousin, really good fun and you get to see awesome views.

Yeah, I love Air Crash Investigation. Watch it all the time when I can. I have a mild case of colour blindness. You know those tests where you mean't to spot the numbers admist all the colours, I failed that lol. So i cant be a pilot. But yes it is a interesting subject.

You don't really go to uni, to be a pilot. You can get your degree first and then train if you want. Is quite expensive and takes a lot of time though. I went and had quite a good long look at this before I went to uni and it does look quite good, but it takes a long time to get to the top. I decided their are faster and easier ways to make money ;)

You can get a plane license here in America at 14. :p Actually down the street from me is one of the best flying schools in the country. Too bad I don't have the money for the ridiculously priced lessons though. :p One of my rich friends did it :\

I'm actually a huge fan of military airplanes. My dad was a airplane mechanic and worked on military jets so I guess I got that from him. I have 4-5 books about military airplanes past and present and have read allot about all kinds of jets.

A huge fan of the Sukhoi 27 line of jets, imo one of the best and beautiful airplanes in the skies today.

I would have loved to be an Apache pilot, or a Hawk (Red Arrows), but I am color-blind so that's a bit gay. Not allowed to fly a plane...

Yeah, I thought so but wouldn't you need to go to Uni and that to be an Air Traffic Controller and stuff?

You can start flying lessons here from 15 I believe.

If you want to be a general aviation pilot, i hope you have ALOT of money to throw around. That was my dream when i was younger, but its ridiculously expensive to climb the ranks.

Where as if you want to join the Air Force you basically have to be physically perfect (such as eyes, concentration, quick minded etc) and you have to do VERY well in your year 12 studies to be excepted into the Australian Defence Force Academy.

Did the subject last year. Mainly for a bludge, but it was still pretty good.

my mates dad is a pilot, he takes me out every now and then for a bit of a joy flight, its always good fun.

also i know an aircraft mechanic, he seems to enjoy it. He did his high school work experience at the airport, and got to fly to king island from hobart. he took an apprentiship, now hes fully fledged mechanic

Hay I am doing Pateway to Airlines and reps(which includes Aviation) course in Collenge
And I love it!!!
