Thanks very much! Enjoying this series very much so can't wait to keep putting out more content.

Speaking of that match I've never seen anything like that happen before, where I just could not take a wicket with the quicks but the Lyon was just tearing through them! Quite extraordanairy.

If Australia needed someone in time of crisis, they found two heroes in Paine and Lyon.

To say Australia were underdogs heading into the last test match at Johannesburg would be one of the biggest understatements in recent sporting history. A demoralised Australian team deprived of 3 of their top 4 batsmen and their tear away quick bowler, Mitchell Starc, many would be forgiven for thinking that this 4th test match would be an ugly scene for the Australian cricket team.

And after a disappointing performance with the bat after being sent in, Australia looked to be almost out of the match after conceding a 233 run lead after both teams first innings. However a brilliant opening stand between replacement openers, Burns and Renshaw saw Australia take 120 runs off that lead before losing their first wicket. However it would be the new test captain of Australia that would make the big statement with the bat to put Australia back into the game. With a helpful knock from Handscomb (76) and finding allies in Cummins (25) and Lyon (20), Tim Paine would lead the Australian comeback making a stunning 153 off 240 balls to lead the Australians to a 222 run lead going into the 4th innings of the test match.

South Africa looked comfortably on track to chase down the target of 222 after Markram, Amla and Elgar led South Africa to 1/152, before Nathan Lyon entered with one of the best test match spells in history. Nathan Lyon ripped through the South African middle and lower order and took all 10 wickets in the innings to see Australia home with 4 runs left in the bank.

Tim Paine’s first match as captain saw some brilliant things come out of it, but the miracle bowling from Lyon covered up some cracks in the Australian attack. Hazlewood only took 2 wickets for the match and Cummins didn’t take a single wicket in the match. Both Marsh’s failed to have any real impact on the match, an issue for the future of Australia’s middle order. However the next test match for Australia is still months away and Tim Paine and Justin Langer’s attention will instead be focused on the upcoming white ball tours to England and Zimbabwe.

Australia announce white ball squads for tour of England and Zimbabwe!

Tim Paine will captain his first one day international as the Australian white ball squads have been announced that will tour England and Zimbabwe in June and July. Aaron Finch will find himself as vice captain for the one day series, before taking the reins in the T20 series with young wicket keeper Alex Carey being vice captain for the T20 tri-series in Zimbabwe.
Australia have chosen not to send their big 3 quicks away for these white ball series, with Mitchell Starc (leg), Pat Cummins (back) and Josh Hazlewood (ankle) all picking up an injury during the South African tour.

D’arcy Short is lined up to make his one day international debut against England, while Cameron White again is handed a lifeline by the selectors and backed to tour England once more.

Justin Langer said “Cameron will bring great experience to a very young team and will be a fantastic role model and leader to the new guys coming into the team.”

The tour of England will start with 2 practice matches which will be a good test for the new young players to find their feet at a higher intensity of gameplay. Australia will be pressing for revenge after England defeated them 4-1 in the recent ODI series back home last summer.

Head leading the race for 2nd opening position.

Australia have just completed their 2nd one day practice match leading into the 5 match one day series against England starting in 2 days. Travis Head has taken a big leap in securing his spot at the top of the order with scores of 76 and 45 at a strike rate of 119.8.

Tim Paine has already confirmed that Finch, White, Stoinis and Maxwell will play the first match batting in the top 6, with Head, Short, Marsh, Handscomb and Carey all fighting for the final 2 batting positions in the top 6.

D’arcy Short was disappointing with a pair of ducks in the 2 matches, while Handscomb was impressive with 62 runs in the first match, despite missing the 2nd game due to general soreness. Carey and Marsh both battled in their innings getting starts in their matches and showing positive signs to deserve selection.

With Australia only having 3 frontline pace bowlers in the squad, it makes the only battle on the bowling front being between Agar and Zampa. However Paine has hinted that Australia possibly may fit both Agar and Zampa into the team.

“There is definitely the option that Agar could bat six if needed, we believe his batting is good enough to slot into 6 if we need that extra bowling option in the team.” Paine said.

However it seems unlikely Australia would choose to go down this path as Stoinis and Maxwell have already been confirmed to play, who are both capable of bowling 10 overs if required.

The first match between Australia and England starts in 2 days.

Australia One Day Squad: Tim Paine (c), Aaron Finch (vc), Ashton Agar, Alex Carey, Peter Handscomb, Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Shaun Marsh, Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson, D’arcy Short, Billy Stanlake, Marcus Stoinis, Cameron White, Adam Zampa.

Australia’s ODI batting disappoints again, but White’s selection justified.

When Australia left off to England to start their one day series the biggest question was can the batting lift without Smith and Warner?
After 1 game it seems like the answer is clear - no.

Only 3 batsmen past 20 as Australia crashed to all out for 196 with 2.2 overs still remaining in their rain shortened innings of 40 overs. These players being, Cameron White (77), Glenn Maxwell (43) and Aaron Finch (32).

However despite the subpar score, Australia’s inexperienced bowling attack managed to push Australia ahead of the game and had England 8/139 still 55 runs short of the target. It would come down to England’s number 10 and 11, Adil Rashid and Mark Wood to smash England to victory with a 14 ball 33 run final wicket partnership, breaking Australian hearts and securing a victory for England and taking them 1-0 up in the series.

Attention will now turn to the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff where Australia will look to level up the series 1-1.

Teams for the second ODI announced!

England will be without captain Eoin Morgan in the second one day international at Cardiff as he is managed by the medical team. Jos Buttler will take the reigns as captain with the young and exciting Sam Billings to take Morgan’s place in the side.

Australia have announced they will be making one change to their side, with experienced campaigner Shaun Marsh being added to the team at the expense of Alex Carey.

“We know Alex has an immense amount of talent and potential, but Marsh has been an exceptional player of late and deserves his spot in the one day team again.” Langer said.

“Alex will definitely get his chance again soon, and he understands that, and seems to be taking the news well.”

The 2nd One Day international of the series will be played at Cardiff with Australia hoping they can level the series.

England take 2-0 series lead after stunning Hales ton!

Australia’s batsmen have again failed to deliver as England rolled to a 4 wicket victory with Alex Hales scoring a brilliant hundred to chase down the total of 175 in the 31st over.

Australia found themselves in trouble from the very first over of the match when Aaron Finch fell for just 1 to Mark Wood. After Finch’s wicket Australia would slump to 4/23, with Paine and Stoinis at the crease.

Paine and Stoinis would put on a small rescue mission guiding Australia to 4/76 before Stoinis fell to Moeen Ali for 29.

Australia again would slump to 8/110 before some rear guard hitting from Kane Richardson and Tim Paine eventually saw Australia finish all out for 175 in the 41st over.

Australia did get off to a good start with the ball, Stanlake bowled Bairstow and Jhye Richardson had Roy caught at first slip seeing England fall to 2/18. Unfortunately after that the match was all England with Hales guiding England home and giving them a 2-0 lead in the series.

Australia complete the 2nd highest run chase in ODI history!

Australia have entered their name into the record books recording the 2nd highest ODI run chase in history! An unbelievable display of batting led by a brutal hundred from Glenn Maxwell led his country to a 4 wicket win in the final over of the match chasing down 383.

With England leading the 5 match series 2-0, it was a must win match for the Australians, but England’s captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bat on what looked like a batting paradise at Trent Bridge.

Sure enough England would pile on a mammoth score of 383 with a stunning Jonny Bairstow 163 leading England to the mammoth score.

The selection queries around Aaron Finch will continue after he again failed falling for just 4 on his 2nd ball. Head (25) and Marsh (33) would have reasonable contributions and a stunning 74 from the experienced Cameron White would see Australia an outside chance of chasing down the total when Stoinis and Maxwell found themselves together at the crease.

The partnership between Stoinis and Maxwell would last for 146 balls with the combination adding 190 runs in a destructive display of power hitting, and when Stoinis eventually fell for 93, Australia only needed 29 off 31 balls. Paine would see his side home in the last over with a six over cover and the series will remain alive heading into the 4th ODI.

Questions still remain about Aaron Finch’s position in the one day side, but Justin Langer has backed a return of form from Finch before the upcoming T20 tri-series against Pakistan and Zimbabwe later next month.

The 4th ODI of the series is at Riverside Ground in Durham.
