BBC Sport said:
Barnsley have pledged to nurture Reuben Noble-Lazarus after the striker, aged 15 years and 45 days, became the Football League's youngest player.

Boss Simon Davey said the youngster, who was due back at school on Wednesday, was too young to be paid.

Noble-Lazarus came off the bench during his side's 3-0 defeat at Ipswich to beat the record by 113 days.

Pretty good story, the lad must have some talent if he's good enough to play Championship football at 15, only just 15 as well. Matty Etherington was the last 15 year old to play leagye football, so if he matches Etherington he'll be a pretty decent Premier League player. You reckon he'll be a good player? or the next Cherno Samba?

At the end of the day, if he was that good he wouldn't be at Barnsley.

But i'm being harsh, good luck to him.

Jimmy Bullard was at Peterborough for most of his career ;)
David Beckham shone at Preston before getting in the Man Utd team
Lee Trundle was at Swansea

They're all still legends. He could still be good, even if he plays for Barnsley.

All fair points, but Beckham still came through United's ranks as opposed to Preston's.

His manager actually wanted to play him earlier in the season (against Crewe in the Carling Cup (12th Aug)) But he was told he was too young to play him.

Still too young to get paid too, couple of years time he can do his apprenticeship!

This makes me feel old/useless, being over a year older than someone who has made their full professional debut in the second tier of English football :p.
Same here! I can't believe there are people younger than me playing professional football!

As said, Beckham was on loan at Preston from United so did his learning at United really. Trundle hasn't played in the premiership, and for all his skills and being famous on soccer am, he's not been noticed nearly as much in the last couple of years. Little claim to fame that he played for my local side Stalybridge Celtic though.;)

But the only reason Beckham got a go in the Manchester United first team is because he was withdrawn from his Preston loan early because of his good performances, if it wasn't for that he wouldn't have been in the team that season, or the one after that, and therefore wouldn't have scored the goal that started his career properly, the Wimbledon one of course.

I think the point me and Matt were trying to make though is that he learnt his trade at United. He won the Youth Cup in that brilliant class of 92.

He's never gonna make it with a name like that. I wouldn't allow him to play for England because his name is so nerdy.

Would be a big money-maker on the 'back of the shirt' though!
