WE BACK BABYYY

Heat XI: 1 Chris Lynn, 2 Max Bryant, 3 Ben Duckett, 4 Sam Heazlett, 5 Nathan McSweeney, 6 Jimmy Peirson (capt./wk), 7 Michael Neser, 8 James Bazley, 9 Mark Steketee, 10 Matt Kuhnemann, 11 Mitch Swepson.

Heat X-factor Subs: Lachlan Pfeffer, Patrick Dooley.

Scorchers XI: 1 Kurtis Patterson, 2 Josh Inglis (wk), 3 Mitch Marsh, 4 Colin Munro, 5 Ashton Turner (capt.), 6 Aaron Hardie, 7 Ashton Agar, 8 Andrew Tye, 9 Jason Behrendorff, 10 Peter Hatzoglou, 11 Lance Morris.

Scorchers X-factor Subs: Nick Hobson, David Moody.

Heat are back to bare bones thanks to Bartlett (conditioning day) and Wildermuth (personal leave) leaving. Bryant comes back in and I swear drugs may be an option if I get another 10(5) from him. Scorchers bring back Inglis, Marsh (national duty), Munro (COVID), and Peter Hatzoglou (omitted).

I've finished my Dinner to find the Heat... 0/26 from three? Not normal

3.4: What a shot from Bryant! Picks up a Morris short ball and nearly hits some Heat staffers.
3.6: Six more! Bryant is on fire for once. Hammered deep over mid wicket.

0/43 from five.

5.1: DROPPED! Tough chance goes down. Bryant drives back at Marsh, who does well to get a hand to the ball but sends it to the ground.
5.3: WICKET! Lynn finds a safer pair of hands than Bryant - Kurtis Patterson at long on. His struggles at Marvel continue. 1/44

7.5: The Scorchers did a great job of slowing the Heat down, but Bryant finds a nice boundary by top edging a hook well over Inglis' head.

8.1: Welcome to the bowling crease AJ Tye! Bryant flicks him away over the head of deep backward square. Fifty up for Bryant, welcome return to form.
8.2: Four more! Classic cover drive to the rope.

9.1: WICKET! Nobody can go with Bryant. Lynn (7 from 11) and now Duckett (6 from 12), who gets a big top edge that carries to Morris at short fine who takes it uncomfortably. 2/71
9.4: Nice start for Heazlett. Cover drives it away to the fence.

2/77 from 10. Nice start for the Heat

12.1: WICKET! Slight outside edge from Heazlett, who has been in bad form since the COVID issues, and he has to go. 3/85
12.2: Arguably that should have been too! It may have been a bit high, but otherwise McSweeney is dead in front and the ball is straight down middle... Nope it's going over!
12.5: The Scorchers bring up long on to the new batsman... who disposes him over that fielder.

13.4: WICKET! McSweeney showing his inexperience. Reverses and picks out backward point. 4/94

4/100 from 15, but with Bryant set and some more batting still to come. Heat could launch

Surge taken immediately. Marsh to bowl, interestingly
15.3: SIX for Bryant! Hooks it, and doesn't get everything, but gets more than enough for six.
15.6: Four runs! Marsh bowled a wide from the original 15.6, and is punished through the covers by Bryant! 16 from the over.

16.1: Peirson joins the fun! Tye is flicked through mid wicket to the fence.
16.2: GOODBYE TYE! Peirson absolutely gets all over Tye and drops it into the top tier, where there is zero spectators. 115 METRES! THE BIGGEST SIX THIS BBL, AND ONLY TWO METRES SHORT OF LYNN'S SIX OUT OF THE GABBA!
30 from the power surge.

17.3: WICKET! Bryant goes to clear the ropes again and just finds someone three metres into the longest part of the fence. An outstanding knock from Bryant comes to an end, his 81 is extremely valuable with his more established partners stuttering. 5/132

18.2: They all count. Bazley nicks one to the fence through the slips.
18.3: A replica! Hatzoglou at short third may be more to blame here as he could possibly have reached it but slipped a bit.
18.5: WICKET! Twenty for Tye. Good running catch from Ashton Turner, and Bazley is out after skying a attempted six. 6/144

19.1: WICKET! Neser goes for a big one and strikes it well... directly to Kurtis Patterson. 7/144
19.6: Six to finish! Peirson splits mid wicket and square leg and just clears it to finish the innings on a positive. 7/155 from the innings. It's possibly too little, but we've seen Josh Inglis struggle, and Colin Munro is coming back from iso...

0.5: Great shot from Patterson! Opens Neser up over extra cover and just clears the rope. Good start.
0.6: Same shot, but one bounce! A great start to an over ruined.

2.1: Big shout from Bazley, but clearly sliding down. Inglis struggling early.

3.1: Patterson deals with a wide one from Mark Fettucine! Slaps it through cover point and into the dugouts for six. Nearly hits James Hopes
3.2: This time it's into the stands at square leg! Six more. The only person in the stadium teeing off more than Patterson is the daughter/boyfriend (?) of the man in the crowd who puts it down.

4.1: Reversed to the third man rope by Inglis! He's finally got one, and the third consecutive over opens with a boundary.
4.5: Splits mid wicket and square leg a la the Heat's final ball. Inglis likes to face the spin. Hasn't made it this far yet...

5.2: WICKET!? Inglis is caught on the fence by Heazlett. But has he slid into the fence? Heazlett is celebrating. DJ on the ground, who has a sense of humour, is playing "Should I Stay, Or Should I Go?"... and it's the world's least necessary review. Inglis gone. Neser with his first wicket since rejoining the Heat. 1/45

6.2: WICKET! The umpire took his time to give that out, but Patterson is extremely plumb. Swepson now in the wickets column, 2/48

9.3: ????? McSweeney looks to catch/drop/not make enough ground to catch Munro out at deep square leg. I have no idea what happened there! Let's see... he's grounded the ball into the grass, it would appear. Unfortunate, he only just didn't make the ground due to being on his heels.
That catch going down is disappointing, but the bowling around it has been suffocating Marsh and Munro so much that the Heat have won the bash boost point convincingly. 2/67 from 10

10.2: Marsh responds to the suffocation! He sends Kuhnemann quite deep - 87 metres - just into the top tier of Etihad over square leg.

11.5: Munro picks up a full one from Neser and puts it into the crowd! And well held in there. Munro and Marsh beginning to get in.

Power Surge taken to start the 13th. This could make or break the Scorchers' innings.
12.1: Marsh flatbats the first ball through cover. Four runs.
12.2: Short ball is jumped all over by Marsh! He sends it ten rows back over fine leg, where to be fair to Mark Linguine, there is a fielder.

13.1: Second decker from Marsh! He's on fire. Into an area where there are a couple people over mid wicket. 109 metres, so the second biggest hit of the tournament. First? Earlier.
13.3: Nailed straight back down the ground! The Heat have run into an on fire BBL superstar two nights in a row.
13.4: Splits the two fielders in the deep again! Both sides... okay, Mitchell Marsh and the Brisbane Heat have used their power surge well.
13.5: This time just clears cover point! Four more.
13.6: 23 from the over! 36 runs in two overs, all bar one wide are from Marsh's bat. Outstanding batting, you simply have to give him that.

14.2: The Marsh train rolls on. Another shot through a weirdly open mid off.
14.5: Kuhnemann's overly excited about not bowling at Marsh, and has a big appeal for one that's pitching outside leg, impacting outside leg and hitting outside leg.
2/131 from 15

15.5: WICKET! But it's surely too late? Tries to go too cute, his paddle sweep goes straight up and Peirson runs well to get it. Took some helmet on the way through too 3/132

16.2: Turner! The Heat try to pinch an over from McSweeney so that Kuhemann doesn't need to bowl again, and the second ball travels 86 metres.

Edit: Kuhnemann bowls the next over. Maybe poor Bazley then?
17.3: Six, but he gets lucky! For about the fifth time tonight, square leg and mid wicket have been parted, and Turner is fortunate as either of them would have caught it quite easily if they could get to it in terms of distance.
17.6: WICKET! The only chance the Heat have here is taking a shocking flurry of wickets, and that is one (that Kuhnemann fully deserves by the way). Short, wide and sliced straight to Neser at backward point. Munro throws his bat in frustration. 4/147

18.4: Hardie hits his first delivery for somewhat of an unconvincing six - maybe I'm biased because of the hitting on display tonight - but the Scorchers deserved to win that. The Heat showed much better than last game, and also had plenty of promise - Kuhnemann and Swepson's spin was very nice, while Max Bryant and James Peirson found form - but their top order largely failing again as well as some hitting in the Power Surge from Mitch Marsh lost them the game. Scorchers will take the tuneup, but will be concerned by Tye's performance and hope for Munro's bad outing to be solely due to his quarantine he has just exited. Marsh is man of the match, predictably.

See you tomorrow for the Renegades vs Hurricanes! Cane train wins it, they secure finals, have a chance to end up second (!) and will definitely host a final if they beat the Stars. Cane train loses it, the showdown against the Stars becomes a extra preliminary final. Raiders-Chargers anyone?

You don't say.

Hurricanes vs Renegades tonight at six. I used the Chargers-Raiders game as an analogy for what this match could create, let's hope it isn't another LA-based NFL team analogy...

Hurricanes XI: 1 Ben McDermott (wk), 2 Josh Kann, 3 Matthew Wade (capt.), 4 D'Arcy Short, 5 Tim David, 6 Caleb Jewell, 7 Peter Handscomb, 8 Jordan Thompson, 9 Tom Rogers, 10 Riley Meredith, 11 Sandeep Lamichhane.

Hurricanes X-factor Subs: Wil Parker, Mitchell Owen.

Renegades XI: 1 Aaron Finch (capt.), 2 James Seymour, 3 Shaun Marsh, 4 Unmukt Chand, 5 Jono Merlo, 6 Sam Harper (wk), 7 Will Sutherland, 8 Cameron Boyce, 9 Zak Evans, 10 Josh Lalor, 11 Zahir Khan.

Renegades X-factor Subs: Mitch Perry, Brayden Stepien.

Renegades first. They've dropped Harvey, Fraser-McGurk and captain Maddinson, ostensibly to give those players a break with no chance of finals. Seymour (expect a full contract for him next season), Unmukt Chand (to the delight of Indian fans everywhere, maybe the BCCI less so) and Jono Merlo (probably a sixth bowling option in Maddinson's stead).

Now to Hobart, and: what the **** are you guys doing?
That is Handscomb at 7 and Thompson at 8. Josh Kann is an allrounder and Scott Boland is away until tomorrow's game, but...

One wicket fell during dinner: McDermott. Needed something special to dismiss him, and Zak Evans replicating Steve Waugh's infamous catch counts as special in every sense.
6.5: Jewell is off to a nice start! Splits... you know what's coming from last night... mid wicket and square leg, and gets six.

7.1: Wade treats Boyce's first ball with aplomb! Six more added to the Huricanes' total.

9.1: Another gap split by Wade! This time it's mid wicket and long on, for a change. Blistering shot
9.6: Four more for Wade. 1/76 from the ten, a lovely stabilisation.

10.5: WICKET! I was in the bathroom at the time, so here's Cricinfo. 2/79
1642496394020.png

12.4: Lovely shot from Wade! It was risky as he exposed his stumps to sweep. But he gets it and gets it to the fence.

Surge taken to begin the 14th
13.2: WICKET! Wade is gone just short of his fifty. Ball skied and Zahir Khan takes an uncomfortable but straightforward catch at 45. 3/96, Thompson promoted to hit in the Surge.
13.4: D'Arcy Short is still here though. Cover drive just past the outstretched hand of short cover to the fence.
13.6: The Surge hitter finds the fence. Loose ball to be fair, which he glides down to fine leg.

14.2: Lofted up and over cover to the fence! Short is looking like the Short of old.
14.3: Short and Thompson nearly run into each other! The run is completed regardless.

15.3: WICKET! Thompson, the pinch hitter, hits nine from three and then hits one straight up. Harper takes the catch. Boyce with his second, 4/119

16.3: Longest shot tonight, and of course it's David! He climbs all over it and sends it 112 metres! A lot of very long sixes at Marvel in the last few days.
4/133 from 17, from the man forgetting to post thios

17.1: Less big, but six more! David sends it.
17.4: Welcome to Six Heaven! This time it's up into the ground. Three big slams over mid wicket this over.

18.1: Short finds the fence with a lovely little flick! He's working on his job - put away the loose ball otherwise feed David - with aplomb.
18.2: Extra cover this time! Short beginning to move, and beginning to get into form, and this is only good news!
18.3: THAT HAS GONE A LIGHT YEAR! 116 METRES FROM SHORT! THIS IS THE PLAYER WE KNOW AND WE LOVE!
18.6: Tim David joins into the glancing party to four! 50 partnership up from 21 balls. The commentators were questioning why Zak Evans was on the bench most of the season after his Surge over - that 21 run disaster is why.

19.1: WICKET! Short goes. He just slices a flick high up and Shaun Marsh slides in to take a lovely catch. 5/170
19.2: Tim David gets a low full toss! Why? Why would you do that? 94 metres later, that is six more.

5/182 from 20. That is sizeable and I don't see a half-strength Renegades batting lineup finding it. But who knows? 46 from 20 for David the standout performance, but Short and Wade also had sizeable contributions.
