I had pointed this out just 4 days back that ICC hinted at a compromise with the BCCI on the controversial whereabouts clause - Click here

And today, its official. The ICC has dropped the whereabouts clause until the concerns of Indian players? about it are resolved - Click here

The BCCI has done a great thing here by convincing the ICC that the whereabouts clause is an infringement of a player's right to privacy and before everyone says this is another example of BCCI flexing its muscle, please be informed that Australia, South Africa, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh were backing the BCCI in its aim to resolve the issue.

BCCI rocks :hpraise

And this is why cricket will never be in the olympics either.

Thank you, ICC for bowing down yet again to the might of the Indian board and being a bunch of spineless morons.

Time to rename the ICC the Indian Cricket Council.

Yes, all the other teams did not like it, but it is in force for every other sport, and it doesn't seem to be much of a problem. I would not like it either, but if every other sport can do it, why can't we?

Morons at the ICC, really. Does this mean that all ICC events are not approved by WADA and they will not be involved anymore?

Cricket needs WADA. Cricket needs to integrate and assimilate itself as much as possible with the rest of the sports world and follow its protocols if we want any chance of Olympic cricket.

A sad day for the game if WADA leaves.

Agree with this pretty much.

kudos to you my friend! they might say that you are saying this b/c you are a Pakistani, but what you said is the truth

Cricket say bye bye to Olympics. another reason to why we love ICC.

and to thread starter, this is nothing to be proud of!!

^^^ Well buddy, its a different world in India. Like some member commented at cricinfo - Unlike players from other nations whose ONLY security concern is a burglary attempt, our boys have terrorist threats. What we are saying is quite RELEVANT. Proof of that is the fact that none of the other boards have spoken against us. Infact, we are pushing for something everyone wants. We are being the 'fall guy' coz none of the boards want to or even can take a stand. So you should be thanking the BCCI for its benevolence !

As for cricket's Olympic ambitions being put into jeopardy, well FIFA had a longstanding issue with WADA. Did that lead them on the way out of the Olympics? It didn't. And please care to read focus on this part of the news article - "The BCCI wants the ICC to either persuade WADA to scrap the clause or make a cricket-specific code.... We will have further meetings with WADA and we hope to have a situation that is acceptable to WADA and all the cricket-playing nations".

And quit making it look like a BCCI thing. Everyone wants the whereabouts clause relooked but only BCCI has the guts to get it done. So don't pan us, thank us.

Cricket in Olympics :rtfl

We all know where drug abuse cases have been found in cricket's history ;)

Cricket doesnt need WADA. And to those who want cricket to be in Olympics, its a waste of time. We are very well off without being in the Olympics. We have our own territory and we are doing extremely well. The advent of T20 and these leagues has the potential to perpetuate the reach of cricket to untapped areas and markets. And it will happen pretty soon. So cricket doesnt need Olympics and if WADA leaves us, to hell with them!

Well done BCCI! Atleast this time you guys have wielded your power for the right cause.

Let the world follow our protocols. We are in a position where we dictate our own protocols. If the world sports want to co-exist with us on the same plane, let their bosses align with us on our conditions. Without them, we dont lose a dime!

I think it would be great to have cricket in the olympics. 2020 is perfect for the Olympics, would be a great oppertunity for associates who have been ignored by the ICC to make their mark.

Hopefully WADA will compromise, although I doubt it, there is a reason why they are so strict. It helps regulate world sport and ensure fair and honest competition.

Only T20 can make it to Olympics and that too when small nations play it seriously. Cricket is not global enough to get in Olympics.

Yeah. I can't think of a single Indian player who has failed a doping test. So it is infact the other countries who need it more. :p

Maybe they could save their Mum the trouble :laugh

Agreed. We, as cricket, do not need to follow a protocol which is not even cricket-specific. And its not just the major cricket boards but even FIFA which had issues with the contentious clause. I see no reason why it would be a "sad day" for cricket.

Conversely, cricket showed it is just as important as other major team sports by refusing to bow down to WADA.

There are always 2 ways of looking at things. If you choose to look at the good side, you make progress. If you choose to look at the negative, you're pretty much a loner.

It sure is global enough, and your right, smaller nations can compete in 2020 ie Netherlands beating England :doh

There are plenty of sports that are not too global in the olympics, like baseball, softball and ice hockey.

You cant compromise with the security of people which will be at stake. Cricketers (especially Indian and subcontinental cricketers) are high profile people and hitting them will create a scene in the entire world. If information about their whereabouts are known well in advance to the WADA and it somehow leaks out (whats the guarantee it wont?), then these guys could be in danger. Its just too much of a risk to take. Fair and honest competition is all good, but WADA could do something without this clause, but they are hell bent on not doing it.

Agreed. Cricket at Olympics would be good. But yes, WADA needs to make sure it doesn't happen at the cost of the players' privacy and security

Cricket takes another loss to the Indians. Won't be long until the BCCI control everything.

RIP International Cricket.
