I don't know why people say the bass is difficult to hear, in the majority of songs it stands out well in the mix.

I found that the more I played guitar, the more my ear could hone in on the bass parts. Maybe because before I started playing guitar I didn't really take that much notice of the music and probably focused my attention on the lyrics.

I still, at times, find it difficult to depict the bass. But then again, I'm pretty sure i'm almost deaf.

I think you need a good strong example of a bass to then be able to recognise it all the time. I think I mentioned in my post about Flea's opening in Around The World. Very distinctive.

Maybe it just comes from playing the bass, I hear the notes every instrument plays almost individually, I'm not sure how to describe it, but that's probably from playing music and playing several instruments with different ranges.

Yeah I think that's what a lot of people do. A large amount simply use music to cover up all that ugly silence that we've become so unused to, that's why they don't notice how poor the audio quality of the radio is on car stereos.
