Good old Javagal Srinath and Venkatesh Prasad. Who else bowled during their time other than Kumble?

But, it sure does help to have a guy like Murali at the other end.

If Murali can keep going for a few years, I can see these two guys single handedly (Or would it be "double handedly" in this case ) get Sri Lanka to be number one.

Its ok to say that you are waiting for him to play against Australia or South Africa on their pitches and prove his worth but how can you just say that he will fail? You mean that he wont pick up any wickets? Its just ridiculous. Seems like you haven't seen his variations. IMO he's got the ability to make fool out of the most batsmen at international level.

Right now I can see even Piyush Chawla or Samit Patel single-handedly crushing Australia or South African batting and you can imagine what Mendis can do.

It doesn't work like that, just because Chawla did well in a tour game doesn't mean Mendis will automatically destroy Australia, especially on our pitches.

Overestimating is the only thing being done here, he's already one of the best bowlers in the world because he had a fantastic debut. What about Michael Clarke, he took 6/9 against India in his debut series, people weren't jumping all over him as a superstar bowler because of that.

Mendis deserves to be called a great bowler when he has played against Australia, England, South Africa, India and Pakistan. Until then, he is a youngster with lots of promise.
