Kaif is the best fielder for India. But if you go by the field placements:

1. VVS Laxman: Best fielder in the slips for India
2. R. Dravid: Best fielder in slips for spinners (His catch to dismiss M. Waugh in 2001 Ind-Aus series was simple awesome)
3. Z. Khan: best fielder for India on fine leg or thirdman.

India's worst fielders:

1. Anil Kumble
2. S. Ganguly

World's worst wicketkeeper:

One and only Parthiv Patel

I don't think Laxman is the best slipper in the Indian team. In fact he drops quite a few there. I think Sehwag is a quality slipper although he has stopped fielding there after he injured his finger or something. He did drop a few but he was more-or-less consistent.

Dravid is an amazing fielder at slip for spin, but he was an even more amazing forward-short-leg/silly point fielder. I do not remember which tour it was but he took some amazing catches off the spinners, just centimeters off the ground sometimes. As for Zaheer, I think Irfan can probably match him at Fine Leg and Third Man.

Kaif is definitely the best considering both the catches and runouts and also the no. of runs he saves...

about bat-pads, Dravid was cool but Aakash Chopra and Kaif(again) are very good too...Aakash Chopra may go on to play 100 tests(dreams) but in his 101st test he should be at bat-pad for spinners...and Kaif - Collingwood will not jump out from the crease forever if there's a bat-pad standing there...
