I was just wondering, how much do you think the BLC 99 Source Code would cost and does EA currently own it?

I think HB Studios own the rights to the code.

However, as good as BLC 99 was (I still think after patches its the best cricket game there is), I don't think the base code of that game should ever be used for a future cricket game

For starters

AI Pacing
The pacing files used by CPU in ODI's take no account of match situation

Bowling orders
The scripted routines to determine bowling orders in ODI/test again take no account of the match situation

Fields
Again the fields used by CPU bared no relevance to the match situation

All the above things and more had to be patched to get a playable (& enjoyble) gaming experience

It was great for its time, but 8 years on its time for a complete overhaul in my opinion.
Having said that it had 46 stadiums, excellent atmosphere in the different countries and good stat tracking etc All these things have never been built upon

BLCSportsgaming.com (our portal site) but it has been down for ages now & I don't think its coming back

Thanks for the quick answer and justification too.

zimrahil, do you no another site which has all the same patchs as blcsportsgaming?

and if not can you tell me which patchs they had.

I don't think any other site carried the majority of the patches at blcsports-gaming.

The patches were too numerous to mention but the ones I remember were

5 day pitch variation patch
New odi and test fields
Better cpu pacing in odi's
stroke/batting patches
Better AI when selecting which strokes to play
Tweaked outfields, tweaked bounce of ball on all pitch types
New and old red cricket balls
Could even change the animations for different strokes
There were dozens of gameplay patches

Plus numerous team and kit and stadium updates etc etc

If only the site would come back online, I would play it again myself

Even though I am only 15 now, my brother and cousin (both 23) played Brian Lara Cricket 95 onwards and every part of it was a bit of brilliance. I remember distinctly the brilliant feature (or bug) in Brian Lara 96. If you reset the game too many timea in an attempt to beat Classic Matches, the rosters reverted to the ones of the previous game with people such as Sanjay Manjrekar present.

What I loved most about the game was the fact that the game lacked a large number of bugs and that the shot animations and risk and reward with all shots was fantastic. I will never forget Vinod Kambli with an average of 7 :) which made him deadly accurate.

Those were the days.:)

It is a shame I played it on ps1 and genesis and so never played with these patches. Truly amazing. It is a real shame EA bought it out and ruined it.
