Brian lara 99 with washed graphics ,game centered on screen ,using vista and laptop

I recently dug up this old game to play on a new laptop with windows vista.
I got it to run by using the winxp patches.
when I start the game with any Direct3d option the game loads in a centred position with a resolution of 800x600 and cannot be strecthed ,i think it's because it's a laptop screen.
The main problem is that when running the game the colours are washed out ,meaning everything is white.
I can only play with the Software option ,but still in windowed mode :

I miss the higher quality but it works fine.

wondered if there is some setting somewhere that would fix it.
I have already updated to latest video and directx.

I am having the same problem...unfortunately I think nothing could be done about this as this is the problem with laptop in built graphics card....btw I run XP and colours are only visible using software option!!

120 Gb , 1.5 gb ram ..ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 .AMD Athlon 1.7 *2

I am using an Intel GMA graphics chip on my laptop.
Strange since I can play games such as Half Life 2 etc.I dont think it?s missing any features.
Have tried all graphics modes ,compatability etc .
guess i?ll just have to stick to Software for now
