Meh. I already get Setanta (and Sky Sports mind you), the film channels and more on Virgin Media.

Is Setanta any good Stu?

My mum cut of Sky after the Cricket World Cup back in March...

Ok, so Virgin and Sky have more channels, but they charge more for 1 month than it costs to get the BT vision box. Then you only pay for the football you want to see (other things are pay per view too, but mostly its just freeview which I already have and dont watch much of), either by pay per view or for a small monthly charge. As I dont watch much tv I'm not interested in paying for channels I dont watch every month.

Fully loaded Sky+ for a year works out at £640 (including the box) when you think about it, thats a load of money if all you are interested in is watching football and cricket. For that you could buy a season ticket for a premiership club and either membership to a county club or visit a couple of test matches.

Id say your quids in there, cant go wrong. Freeview with the features of Sky+ for what, £30? Thats really good!

Obviously the lack of channels lets it down, but for the price your paying, thats to be expected.

Well, make sure your line can take it is my advice. BT didnt tell us that we couldn't support it until they came out to install.

I live in a rural area and only get 2mb, which is the minimum. 4mb is reccomended.

Apart from that, go ahead and buy. Great deal.

Thats one problem with ADSL to be honest, its not just BT. Line quality affects bandwidth and the only way to tell is to suck it and see. Luckily I've been enjoying 8meg for sometime via BT.

I decided I needed another freeview box in the house, so I went for it (eventually). I ordered online a week ago and it turned up on my requested delivery date. Installation was a doddle (You can pay, but install basically required plugging in then waiting about 20mins). The box is well constructed (made by phillips) and came with everything you need (Scart lead, lan cable, etc) it even came with a pair of 200meg powerline adapters which I didnt require (but am thinking might replace my wireless network).

The tv guide is much like sky's but instead of that annoying music you can see and hear the currently selected channel in the background. (Sky's colour scheme is nicer though, this is a bit monochromatic). First on demand football match I'm interested in is on Sunday. Hopefully it'll stream ok. I watched a few on-demand freebies and they streamed fine so here's hoping.

As lansc666 says no Cricket as sky has the licence tied up for a good while yet. There are a few 99p cricket documentaries in the on demand menu, basically profiles of a host of great players from the past. Could fill an empty gap, but certainly not a reason to get it.

Well done Usy. Of course Sky offers a more comprehensive service, its been running for years and is subscription. As I said earlier in your first year of Sky+ you will spend over £600, I'd prefer to spend £600 enjoying real life, not spent infront of the TV. BT vision cost me £30, thats it.

If you have something interesting to say, then post, otherwise **** off!

Personally for me its not worth it. If you can afford Sky + it definitly worth getting. But BT vision does look and definitely worth getting if you cant be arsed paying for sky

Note: Im not rich
