Derbyshire Signs Young Gun

Derbyshire may have found a brilliant prospect in 20 year old Chad Reynolds, spotted by coach David Houghton and star batsmen Hasan Adnan at a 2nd XI game while on his way to making 113* off 110 balls, when asked about the youngster David Houghton replied ?he is certainly aggressive but he picks the right balls to go after?, Adnan added ?he seems to be quite eager to get on the front foot and with a little work he could be damaging attacks on the county scene, his cover driving was amazing?.

We talked to Chad after the game and he was quite happy about his performance. ?To score runs with the two men who could determine my future as a cricketer watching was very encouraging, I know my technique is a little raw but those things can be worked out and I hope to do so with David and Hasan?. His stats in his 17 2nd XI matches are quite outstanding especially with his form this season

2nd XI Career
17 matches
1203 runs at 63.32
50?s - 6
100?s ? 4
Top Score - 157

2nd XI Current
9 matches
739 runs at 82.11
50?s - 3
100?s - 3
Top Score - 157

With the lack of emerging talent around Derbyshire cricket at the moment Chad Reynolds is a breath of fresh air but will still have to prove his worth against Surrey this week in his first County Championship match with an attack containing Anil Kumble and 3 other cricketers who have all represented their country. ?Facing a bowler with over 500 test wickets such as Anil will be tough especially considering his different style of bowling which will be something I?ve never seen before, in 2nd XI matches the spinners just try to turn the ball as much as possible I just hope he doesn?t get me out?.

First Training Session

I turned up to my first training session as one of the big boys and was expecting something different but nobody really did anything out of the ordinary. I saw a reporter as I walked in and was disappointed he didn?t want to talk to me.

I was first taken into a net by David and Hasan who were just giving me throw downs and working out little things also asking me a few questions. I asked them if I could bat at 4 to make me feel more comfortable on game day and just got a maybe in response.

After I finished with the throw downs I went straight into the top net no net bowlers here Kevin Dean and Graeme Welch were sussing me out back at their run ups. I played my usual game until I noticed that off in the distance a camera man and the reporter were talking to our coach so I decided to take action Ian Hunter came charging in who I had been able to play pretty well for most of the session I got underneath the ball and hit it just over the top of the interview.

After I finished in the net Graeme Welch the captain walked past me and said ?Perfect shot of Ian, mate? I asked ?What do you mean?? and as he walked past he said just watch the news tonight. I got home at 7:45 just in time for the sport and watched the interview at today?s session the reporter asked ?Is there anyone you would recommend the England selectors keep their eye on? then just as David went to answer the question the ball flew in the screenshot and he just said ?Him? as the cameraman zoomed in on me getting ready for the next ball.

Great thinking , Build up is good add more suspense to where you want to finally come upon otherwise looks absolutely brillant Good Luck

County Championship v Surrey

Surrey 1st Innings - 209 all out

J Batty 51
M Ramprakash 48

T Lungley 4-63

We lost the toss which was disappointing and were made to bowl and the nerves already hit me and after an opening stand of 63 which appeared to happen in seconds I was still a ball of nerves because I hadn?t yet fielded a ball then Tom Lungley bowled Scott Newman and it all settled down. We got Surrey all out for 209 on the first day just before the end of the 2nd session. My fielding could have been better but I didn?t have to do much with no catching chances hit at me all day.

Below: Tom Lungley appeals for the wicket Mark Ramprakash
