Bill Ponsford (RHB) - Invincible era opener, averaged 48 overall and 54 in the top spot.
Bill Lawry (LHB) - Tenacious and resilient, averaged 47 in an era rich with tough fast bowlers.
Don Bradman (RHB) - The greatest
Greg Chappell (RHB) - Averaged 59 as a no. 4, THE Aussie batsman of The 70s
Alan Border (LHB) - More than 11,000 Test runs, a fiercely tough player who was often called upon to carry his team. Averaged 52 at no. 5, 50 overall.
Victor Trumper (RHB) - Statistics do no justice to this man, who lived at the turn of the 20th century and played on pitches well below what is considered poor in modern times. Still, he averaged 39 in times when batsman did not average 50 and is now understood to have scored at about 68 runs per hundred balls.
Keith Miller (RHB/RF) A hard hitting batsman averaging 36 and deadly fast bowler, averaging 22. One of the great all rounders of cricket.
Ian Healy (RHB/WK) Australia's best ever specialist wicket keeper, his modest, yet impressing ability with the bat, averaging, 27, paved the way for Adam Gilchrist.
(C) Richie Benaud (RHB/LBG) - One of the world's great captains and probably cricket's greatest mind was also a fantastic leg spin bowler and capable batsman with something of a hooking addiction.
Alan Davidson (LHB/LMF) A brilliant left arm paceman who batsman struggled to score off, averaged 20 and took 186 wickets. Was also a powerful striker of the ball, averaging 24.
Dennis Lillee (RHB/RF) Phenomenal fast bowler and with his moustache, his wild mane and open shirt complete with gold chain, he was the image for the Australian fast bowler. Hampered by injury, he still managed 355 wickets at about 24.
Richie edges out Grimmett and O'Reilly as my spinner, for his all-round talents and obvious captaining ability. I wouldn't put O'Reilly in a game that doesn't allow spinners to bowl at medium fast pace anyway. Davidson beats Lindwall, as I'd prefer the variety in the attack to Lindwall's more impressive pace. Border beats Steve Waugh as my no. 5, though I could have gone either way, I eventually decided a left hander would be nice.
