My stratgy now is two have a 11 good players thant having 2-3 really good players. And its paying off. But i still need some new blood which i might buy this week.

I won :D

Slow pitch, I won the toss and had a bowl. Pingers were all out for 215. Lakhani top scored with 96 before becoming one of Kelly Slaytor's victims. The spin bowler took his first 5-for, 5-23. Riaan and Levy took 2 each and Nedd got 1

I then chased it, losing 5 wickets in the process, in 47.1 overs. Trainees Eagles and McCormick both got 50s and we got there easily

My new batsman made his debut in this game with a very decent 86, in all honesty it was a good team performance except for a certain bowler of mine sort of throwing the game away. I do believe that had he not been so exspensive I would have chased down the total set.

Why is it so quite on match day? Well, I think today's match of the day is arguably between the Cricket Geniuses and the Bushwackers in a rematch of last years final. The Bushwackers have prepared a dusty pitch seeing the dramatic collapse of the Geniuses versus Everton. However, this time things are looking better.

End of Over 45: 253-3, runrate=5.62
Ryan 8-0-41-1
Bhutia* 32 (40 balls)
Hoult 65 (64 balls)

Last Wicket: Hume c. Fieldhouse b. Mcinerney 102 (FOW: 179/3)

Not bad. A late boost is needed though.

EDIT: Woah, two posts while I was typing! What a coincidence.

Update: End of Over 50: 297-4, runrate=5.94
Nile 10-0-74-1
Devins* 7 (4 balls)
Bhutia 60 (56 balls)

Last Wicket: Hoult c. Fieldhouse b. Ryan 74 (FOW: 277/4)

There was indeed a late boost. 297 is a very good score. Hopefully, I should defend this.

0.2 W Rudi to Mahmood
Thin edge and gone. Great take by Rheams, diving to his left!
Early strike! Wild-card Mahmood falls for a golden! Allrounder Ibbrahim walks in. Folkes is sharing the new ball.

4.4 W Rudi to Hansen
Got him! Unlucky for Hansen, he played on. But full credit to Rudi, tempted him into a loose shot, thick inside edge and the stumps are in a right mess.
A HUGE wicket! Assassin's XI in very deep trouble, that might have just lost them the game.

At five overs:
End of Over 5: 11-2, runrate=2.20
Rudi 3-0-5-2
Ettienne* 1 (2 balls)
Ibbrahim 2 (9 balls)

Last Wicket: Hansen b. Rudi 7 (FOW: 10/2)
Fantastic stuff from Rudi. Both allrounders in, if they bat well and rescue thier team, their bowling will suffer. My plan is working! Assassin's XI in very, very deep trouble.

10 over update:
End of Over 10: 33-2, runrate=3.30
Folkes 5-0-20-0
Ibbrahim* 13 (20 balls)
Ettienne 11 (21 balls)

Last Wicket: Hansen b. Rudi 7 (FOW: 10/2)

Highlights:
5.2 4 Folkes to Ibbrahim
Oh, the audacity! He gets outside the line of off stump, leaving the castle exposed, and backs himself to get it past short fine leg! Totally premeditated, but certainly very effective when it comes off.
5.6 4 Folkes to Ettienne
Crash! That's gone like a bullet through point, four runs.
6.1 3 Rudi to Ibbrahim
Leans forward and strokes it through wide mid on for three comfortable runs.
6.4 1 Rudi to Ibbrahim
Chipped over the slip cordon by Ibbrahim and down to third man for a single. Rudi looks like he's been robbed but it was a controlled shot and relatively safe.
7.3 . Folkes to Ettienne
Played and missed. That?s good bowling.
8.3 . Rudi to Ettienne
When you bowl with that much swing, who needs pace. Rudi has beaten Ettienne all ends up.
8.4 . Rudi to Ettienne
Powerful cover drive by Ettienne is magnificently fielded by Mcintyre. Four runs saved there.
9.6 . Folkes to Ettienne
Rather full outside off stump, drives and misses

The bowling has been tight, but the two allrounders have been sensible and are looking to rebuild. Rudi to continue.

I beat Sids Bashers by 9 wickets.
Sids bashers winning the toss and electing to bat first lost early wickets to Masilo and then the other bowlers joined the party too. The only sign of a fight was a 28 from Resha. With a score of 65 to chase BC's XI lost the wicket of Mckenzie who was tried as an opener, that experiment didnt work as he got out for 18, but then Kadir and Kartikeyan finished off the match.

Good game

At the halfway mark, the Lions seem to hold the edge. Tuckett came and bowled a nice spell, and Andrews has been very tight so far. Crouch going decently, removing the stubborn Ibbrahim first ball with a pearler, but if these two bat on for another ten overs or so, they can get a decent score. They still have a few bats to come, so the Lions need another wicket or so to really be on top. Allrounders Ettienne and Ibbrahim did well, but are both back in the pavillion. This might be a blessing in disguise for the Assassins as they will be resting up to give it thier all with the ball.

End of Over 25: 94-4, runrate=3.76
Andrews 6-1-14-0
Hollis* 10 (14 balls)
Heath 17 (16 balls)

Last Wicket: Ibbrahim b. Crouch 32 (FOW: 71/4)

Highlights:
12.1 . Rudi to Ibbrahim
Thin edge, but the ball bounced just in front of Rheams.
12.4 1 Rudi to Ibbrahim
Great fielding there stopped a certain boundary. He's one of the best fielders in that position.
13.1 . Tuckett to Ibbrahim
That's the straighter one. Very animated appeal by Tuckett and Rheams. Turned down by the umpire. The ball looks to have struck Ibbrahim just outside the line.
15.3 wd Tuckett to Ettienne
Oh, dreadful ball; and rightfully called wide. Tuckett has supposedly been developing a new 'secret weapon' delivery in the nets - let's hope that wasn't it!
15.5 6 Tuckett to Ettienne
Cover those windows and lock up your daughters, Ettienne is on the attack!!!
16.1 . Andrews to Ibbrahim
Ibbrahim gets his bat down just in time as Rheams whips off the bails.
16.5 . Andrews to Ettienne
Dot ball, but hang on! There's a streaker on the pitch, fantastic! Look at her go!
18.1 3 Andrews to Ibbrahim
Gorgeous shot off the back foot, effortlessly played out into the deep..sheer class.
18.2 . Andrews to Ettienne
Oooh! That's spun fully 2 feet and Ettienne gets nowhere near it!

19.2 W Tuckett to Ettienne
Ettienne prodded forward, and the ball clipped the side of his bat. Rheams taking a regulation catch.

19.3 4 Tuckett to Heath
One, two, three bounces and the ball slams into the boundary boards for four runs.
19.4 2 Tuckett to Heath
Thick inside edge, narrowly missing leg stump. To add to Tuckett's frustration, the batsman will jog through for an easy two.

21.1 W Crouch to Ibbrahim
Brilliant! Fantastic bowling! Perfectly pitched off cutter, through the gate and Ibbrahim has lost his off stump! Just look at Crouch, you'd think he won the lottery!

21.4 4 Crouch to Heath
Shortish delivery, drifts away and cuts back in, pulled safely down the ground through mid wicket for a boundary.
22.3 4 Andrews to Hollis
Solid cover drive steered into the gap wide of mid off. Well played!
23.5 6 Crouch to Heath
That one's entered the upper atmosphere!

Moment of the day:
19.1 . Tuckett to Ettienne
It looks like Andrews at silly mid on is sharing a joke with Ettienne. It's nice to know they're enjoying this.
A very nice moment. They are treating this like what it is, a game. They are competitive and want to win, but underneath just want to have a fun time. The atmosphere is festive and all of us here at the Lion Stands are having a great time on this wonderful day for cricket. Stay tuned for our next update.

I was going update at 40 overs, but I've gotta go have dinner, so the update will most likely be the 45 overs or end of innings.
You could always watch the match yourself...

End of Innings

Assassin's XI - 157 a/o (43.3 overs)

After we left you, Hollis and Heath opened up and played a few fine strokes, being especially hard on Crouch. However, Hollis played a poor shot to Andrews and threw away a fine start, out for 22. Bernard came and went, and Hanqui lasted for a whole of 21 balls. At 149/7, it all seemed over. But Heath rallied on, fighting amongst the fall of wickets, but ended up unbeaten on 43 as the tail failed to wag till the end.

Highlights:
25.1 4 Crouch to Hollis
Slower delivery, managed to steer it past mid off and a boundary is the result.
26.2 . Andrews to Hollis
Hollis comes down the track and, ooh, he's beaten by the turn. The ball's not gathered cleanly by the keeper and he just gets his bat back in time. Well bowled!
28.5 3 Andrews to Hollis
Outstanding fielding by Gallagher. That commitment shows how the fielding team don't want to give away any extra runs. Make the batting side sweat for them!
29.2 4 Crouch to Heath
Bowling lesson number 72: If you bowl there, you will be punished. Four to add to the total.
29.3 4 Crouch to Heath
That's the hook shot. Is it six? Just short for a one-bounce four.
29.5 lb1 Crouch to Hollis
Well, that might have been LBW on any other day but they'll have to settle for one leg bye to an ambling third man.

30.3 W Andrews to Hollis
A thick edge, and great reflexes by Rheams to take that one.

30.5 4 Andrews to Bernard
Plays with the spin and lobs it over the infield for four runs.
31.1 nb. Tuckett to Heath
no ball, Tuckett flights that one as he attempts the big turner, but Heath plays forward and outside the line of off stump. The ball hits the pad and is collected by the bowler.

31.5 W Tuckett to Bernard
A Christmas cracker and shout from Tuckett... and it's given. LBW! Which reminds me, what does an elf learn at school? Why, the elf-abet of course! Ah, it's the way I tell 'em.

31.6 . Tuckett to Haquani
Haquani is lucky he isn't back in the pavilion. A great ball by Tuckett goes under Haquani's bat as he plays an ungainly sweep.
32.4 6 Andrews to Haquani
Oh, Haquani hammers the ball from the hapless Andrews and it goes right over the grandstand for an amazing six!!! What a player!
33.5 . Tuckett to Haquani
Tuckett just bowled a perfect delivery. Haquani had no chance of making contact with that one!
34.1 4 Crouch to Haquani
Shortish delivery, drifts away and cuts back in, pulled safely down the ground through mid wicket for a boundary.
35.1 . Tuckett to Heath
That was a jaffa of a ball, Tuckett had him in all-sorts with that one.
35.3 4 Tuckett to Heath
The chase is on for Mcintyre but I dont think hes going to make it..four runs.
35.5 . Tuckett to Heath
Tuckett is left shaking his head wondering how that one missed the edge. More bowling like that and Heath will be in trouble.
36.6 4 Crouch to Heath
Bang! Cracking cover drive, full ball, just wide outside off. Heath leans well forward and drives it through extra cover for four.
37.1 . Tuckett to Haquani
Shortish ball outside off stump. The batsman cuts hard at it but only succeeds in getting a bottom edge.

37.3 W Tuckett to Haquani
An early Christmas for Rheams! Haquani left that one well alone, only to be caught off his crease.

37.4 . Tuckett to Akhlagullah
The third umpire will look at the video for this stumping..Akhlagullah's foot was just behind the line, a lucky escape there.
37.4 . Tuckett to Akhlagullah
The third umpire will look at the video for this stumping..Akhlagullah's foot was just behind the line, a lucky escape there.
38.1 . Crouch to Heath
Edged..... and inches short of the slip cordon. A bit of banter going on there. Crouch seems to be exchanging a few heated words with Heath. Heath simply shrugs and smiles at him before re-taking his guard.
38.3 . Crouch to Heath
Heath batting that like a doughnut, all edges and no middle, edged the shot, but luckily well short of Rheams.
39.3 . Tuckett to Akhlagullah
I don't think Akhlagullah is good enough to hit deliveries like that. Just look how much that turned!

41.1 W Crouch to Akhlagullah
Good King Wenceslas looked 'out' - was the pitch uneven? That looked plumb to me though.

42.4 W Folkes to Dickman
OUT, gone! Full and straight, you miss I hit and all that....Dickman goes for an agricultural stroke with mid wicket clearly on his mind but he fails to make contact and his middle stump goes for a walk.

43.3 W Crouch to Rahim
Can you believe that throw in from Whing at short square leg? Neither can Rahim. Right in, flat and hard, to the top of the stumps and Crouch takes off the bails at the bowler's end. They won't be taking on Whing's arm again in a hurry.

The Lions need 158 to win in 50 overs at 3.57 RPO. Can they do it? Stay tuned for the 15 over update of the Lion's innings.

15 over Update - Lions struggle as Assassin's strike crucial blows!

End of Over 15: 48-3, runrate=3.20, reqrunrate=3.14 (157-10)
Akhlagullah 3-0-11-1
Crouch* 6 (8 balls)
Gallagher 16 (35 balls)

Last Wicket: Rudi c. Haquani b. Akhlagullah 14 (FOW: 33/3)

The Assassin bowlers have started on a killer note and have picked up 3 crucial blows in the first fifteen overs - those of openers Whing and Mcintyre, and young allrounder Lennox Rudi. Rudi plays a pivotal role in the Lions' batting lineup, and his wicket will definately be a big one. He was especially troubled by Dickman, who bowled a very fine over to him just before he got out, breaking down the flaws in his technique brilliantly and causing doubt in his mind and adding onto the pressure. One hopes the youngster learns from this experience. Crouch and Gallagher are battling out there, but another wicket here could take the Assassins very close to an unbelievable victory. Rahim and Dickman bowled splendid spells with the new ball, and Akhlagullah struck the vital blow removing Rudi as he attempted an ugly and completely needless shot. It's anyone's game at the moment, with not much batting from the Lions left with these two to be followed by Billy Shipp and last-minute selection Leeroy Spearitt, and Ettienne yet to bowl. However, they only need another 109 runs at 3.14 RPO, one good partnership could change everything. The next 10 overs will be crucial, stay tuned.

Highlights:
0.2 . Rahim to Whing
That one got heavy on him and it's a thick edge, but it's dropped just short of point. Whing has gone up the pitch to have a gentle prod.

0.3 W Rahim to Whing
That's an absolute snorter of a delivery! Moving away from the batsman before jagging back off the seam and crashing into the stumps. Clean bowled!

1.2 1 Dickman to Mcintyre
Pushed to the ground and they go for the run. Mcintyre scrambles as Ibbrahim picks up and throws at the non-striker's end but Mcintyre just made his ground.
2.6 4 Rahim to Mcintyre
Mcintyre uses his feet well and lofts the ball into the vacant extra cover region. Akhlagullah chases in vain as the ball skips over the rope.
3.1 2 Dickman to Rudi
Mahmood takes a shy at the stumps, but misses! One becomes two!
3.5 . Dickman to Mcintyre
Thank heavens for protective equipment. Dickman surprised Mcintyre with that delivery. Uncomfortable position to be struck to say the least. No run.
4.3 1 Rahim to Mcintyre
Mcintyre leaned back and fired it straight up into the air. It's dropped safe though and the batsmen are through for a single.
4.4 . Rahim to Rudi
Short ball. Rudi goes back to defend and gets an inside edge onto his pads. Rahim runs in to prevent the single.
5.5 . Dickman to Rudi
Lucky boy! Rudi gets it all wrong and the ball flashes within milimetres of the wicket!

6.1 W Rahim to Mcintyre
Hansen made a spectacular dive there, not sure if it was necessary but it was effective.

6.5 . Rahim to Gallagher
Wow! Big swing, but Gallagher has completely missed the ball, he really threw the handbag at that one.
7.1 . Dickman to Rudi
Good ball! Shortish ball outside off stump that keeps a little low. The batsman attempts the cut and misses, playing all over the top of it.
7.3 . Dickman to Rudi
Rudi had to take rapid evasive action to avoid that bouncer from Dickman. Things are getting tense out there!
7.4 . Dickman to Rudi
10 out of 10 for effort, but you get no runs in this game for waving your bat around like a fairy with a wand.
7.5 . Dickman to Rudi
On target, yorker length and swinging in late. The batsman digs it out to cover.
7.6 . Dickman to Rudi
Rudi shoulders arms to a tight inswinger and it whistles past the off bail. Dickman cannot believe it.
9.4 4 Dickman to Gallagher
It looked like a gentle prod, but he's timed it wonderfully and the ball races away for four.
10.2 . Akhlagullah to Rudi
The spin and drift on that delivery has completely fooled Rudi.

10.4 W Akhlagullah to Rudi
A mistimed shot from Rudi and a simple catch for Haquani.

11.4 . Ibbrahim to Gallagher
Something distracted Gallagher, a lovely lady has streaked across the pitch and flashed at Ibbrahim. Hope the girlfriend's not watching!
11.5 2 Ibbrahim to Gallagher
Oohhhh, and Gallagher edges just wide of the slip cordon. That's the way, son.
11.6 2 Ibbrahim to Gallagher
Cut to third man, great running between the wickets.
13.5 . Ibbrahim to Gallagher
Ouch!! That's hit Gallagher in a very painful place. Regaining his composure, Gallagher asks the umpire how many balls are left.
14.3 . Akhlagullah to Crouch
Crouch did not have a clue how to play that ball!

25 over update - Gallagher fights on as Ettienne strike crucial blow
End of Over 25: 86-4, runrate=3.44, reqrunrate=2.88 (157-10)
Ettienne 3-0-9-1
Gallagher* 37 (63 balls)
Shipp 2 (12 balls)

Last Wicket: Crouch b. Ettienne 20 (FOW: 77/4)
The Assassin's continue to fight hard, but this spirited display from Gallagher is keeping the Lions alive. Ettienne struck with what could be the match winning blow of removing Ryan Crouch. Dickman has been re-introduced into the attack as the Assassins go for the kill. The Lions need a partnership, as they require 71 more runs to win.

Highlights:
15.2 1 Ibbrahim to Gallagher
Glorious shot, taken on the bounce by Akhlagullah at deep mid wicket and a sharp throw keeps it down to a single.
15.6 4 Ibbrahim to Crouch
That's Crouch at his best. He put his front foot down the track and slapped the ball to the cover boundary for four runs. Wonderful shot.
16.6 6 Akhlagullah to Crouch
Picked up over mid wicket for the maximum.
17.3 4 Ibbrahim to Gallagher
Ibbrahim bowls a nasty bouncer and as Gallagher ducks it hits his bat and bounces over Hansen for four. Some good fortune for Gallagher there.
17.5 . Ibbrahim to Crouch
Crouch charges but leaves it alone, trying to manipulate Ibbrahim's length here.
18.4 . Akhlagullah to Crouch
That has turned an absolute mile! Crouch looks bewildered.
19.1 . Ibbrahim to Gallagher
Fantastic fielding! Shortish ball just outside off stump. Gallagher plays a savage cut shot into the ground, point launches himself at the ball and plucks it brilliantly from the air whilst completely off the ground.
19.5 . Ibbrahim to Crouch
Crouch didn't pick the slower ball and has missed that one by miles.
19.6 . Ibbrahim to Crouch
A beauty! Good ball around the off stump and moving away, Crouch pushes on the front foot and is beaten.
20.4 . Ettienne to Crouch
Short ball, dropped down on the leg side. Crouch wants a quick single, but his partner sends him back, Crouch turning like the Titanic, but thankfully he has his bat down before Hansen whips off the bails.

20.6 W Ettienne to Crouch
Bowled! Crouch left that, thinking it was wide of off stump, but it jagged back and clipped the off bail.

21.1 . Dickman to Gallagher
Gallagher shoulders arms to a tight inswinger and it whistles past the off bail. Dickman cannot believe it.
21.4 . Dickman to Gallagher
Edged, but played with soft hands, and Ibbrahim takes it on the bounce. Good fielding.
22.4 . Ettienne to Shipp
Shortish ball, a bit wide outside off stump, comfortably raises the arms up high to leave alone to Hansen. Expected a wide there, but not given. Shipp can't believe it!
23.3 . Dickman to Shipp
Ripper of a delivery from Dickman! It whistles past Shipp's nose and Dickman gives him a stare for good measure.
24.5 3 Ettienne to Gallagher
Good placement there from Gallagher as he flicks the ball just wide of the man at mid wicket. The race is on between the fielder and the ball and his diving stop just manages to gather the ball inside the rope.

29.5 b1 Dickman to Shipp
Terrible ball, terrible shot and terrible fielding. The batsmen steal a quick single.
Hehe, my line :)

Gallagher Fifty!
It's been a wonderful knock from the man as he has risen to the challenge. He has fought hard for the runs, and if he bats on for another 10 overs, the Lions stand a strong chance of winning!
End of Over 32: 114-4, runrate=3.56, reqrunrate=2.44 (157-10)
Ibbrahim 6-0-28-0
Shipp* 13 (32 balls)
Gallagher 52 (85 balls)

Last Wicket: Crouch b. Ettienne 20 (FOW: 77/4)

Gally's hard-fought Fifty:
6.5 . Rahim to Gallagher
Wow! Big swing, but Gallagher has completely missed the ball, he really threw the handbag at that one.
9.4 4 Dickman to Gallagher
It looked like a gentle prod, but he's timed it wonderfully and the ball races away for four.
13.5 . Ibbrahim to Gallagher
Ouch!! That's hit Gallagher in a very painful place. Regaining his composure, Gallagher asks the umpire how many balls are left.
17.3 4 Ibbrahim to Gallagher
Ibbrahim bowls a nasty bouncer and as Gallagher ducks it hits his bat and bounces over Hansen for four. Some good fortune for Gallagher there.
29.6 1 Dickman to Gallagher
A big inside edge just misses the stumps and whistles down to long leg for a single. Looks like it's Gallagher's day, while Dickman looks disconsolate.
30.1 3 Akhlagullah to Gallagher
Skies a top edge but luckily there's no fielder underneath it and they scramble three runs.
31.2 1 Ibbrahim to Gallagher
The ball is effortlessly nudged down to third man for an easy single.
And that's his fifty! Well played.

The weaknesses in the batting for both the line ups are showing here. It's a flat wicket and a score of 157 should be finished within 25 overs. However, the runrate in the second innings is hideously slow again.

And now commentary moves on to Me, zorax has messed up his hand with new years cake, and has been thus forbidden to use the pc. so i carry on.

40 Over Update - Gallagher and Shipp 13 runs short of a 50 run partnership

At the end of 40 overs:
End of Over 40: 138-4, runrate=3.45, reqrunrate=2.00 (157-10)
Ibbrahim 10-0-38-0
Shipp* 29 (52 balls)
Gallagher 58 (113 balls)

Last Wicket: Crouch b. Ettienne 20 (FOW: 77/4)

So, 20 runs required at a rate of 2 per over.

Latest News:

- Ettiene strikes twice, Lions lose two wickets:

Just after I left you to a match that would have easily belonged to the lions, the match has turned. Rahim stopped the great partnership by taking Gallagaher

40.3 W Rahim to Gallagher
What a catch! Ibbrahim plucked that one-handed from in front of a spectator.

The Lions would still have won, if Ettiene hadnt dropped the bomb on them.

41.4 W Ettienne to Shipp
A fullish ball raps Shipp on the pads. It may have been missing leg, it may have been missing off but that was only because it was going to knock the middle pole out of the ground. No real decision for the umpire to make there; he was plumb.

41.5 W Ettienne to Rheams
What a ball! Off stump is out of the ground and Ettienne politely reminds Rheams which way the pavilion is.

So, with the tail exposed and spearitt the only guy who can help, the match yet again stands on the nails point...

Not good...

End of Over 42: 149-7, runrate=3.55, reqrunrate=1.13 (157-10)
Ettienne 6-0-22-3
Spearitt* 5 (4 balls)
Andrews 0 (1 balls)

Last Wicket: Rheams b. Ettienne 0 (FOW: 149/7)
Spearitt is the last bat. 8 to win. He's on strike, and three dot balls. Only Tuckett and Folkes to come. Right down to the wire...
42.4 1 Rahim to Spearitt
Steered down to third man, single taken.
Seven needed, dot ball to Andrews. One more in the over...

42.6 . Rahim to Andrews
Tight shortish ball on off stump, gets right in behind it, defending from the crease with a straight bat, played back to Rahim.
150/7. 8 needed to win. Spearitt on strike...

43.1 1 Ettienne to Spearitt
He got lucky there, caught the leading edge but they scamper through for a single.
Uh-oh. I know it's only 7 to win, but Andrews has to face 5 balls from Ettienne. Hope he survives. First is a dot.

43.4 1 Ettienne to Andrews
A big outside edge flies at a rate of knots over first slip's head and is fielded by third man. One is added to the total.
2 balls to Spearitt, 6 needed. Hope he can keep strike, or more importantly, survive.

43.6 1 Ettienne to Andrews
