I know it is done via ethernet cable etc etc. But I don't know the full thing can anyone explain this ?

You need to connect the 2 PCs using an Ethernet Cable, plugged into their LAN-cards/ethernet port.
If you have to connect more than 2 computers, they can be connected through a hub/switch/router, wherein, the cables from all the computers go into the hub.

The networking is generally handled pretty well by Windows XP and later versions, so you need not worry about the settings and the IP addresses.

If you can tell us what exactly are you looking to do, we can suggest the best alternative.

We were trying to setup Render-Farm can u help ? :p

To set-up a render farm you will need a couple of components. First of all, you'll probably need a router/switch so that you can connect multiple computers together. Most residential routers come with 4 ethernet ports and wireless which may or may not meet your needs. I wouldn't trust a wireless connection for rendering, personally.

Secondly, you will need software that manages and splits up the jobs appropriately and distributes them to the machines in the farm. You will probably need a client/agent installed on each machine in the farm that reports back to the "manager/administrator". Since all the data is going through your network, you will need that hub that was mentioned earlier to make sure all the computers are on the same network.

If all is set-up fine, when you fire up a render, your manager machine should distribute tasks to the machines in the farm and keep giving them jobs when they're done.

This is obviously a very higher-level overview of the topic. Previously I've worked with software called "IncrediBuild" which is essentially a build farm for large programs (think millions of lines of code). Instead of having compilation as a linear process, IncrediBuild distributes the source files to all the different machines in the farm, that then send their object files back to the requesting computer, thus making compilation parallel.

I was thinking of small farm(5 PC's only) and I need it for rendering in Maya 2008
