Could this be the beginning of another 'golden era' for PC?

they were just switching reps between each other and effectively made them redundant

Another forum I visit has a system where reps have to be recharged once you rep someone. You can't rep someone again until you have repped 40 other people and you are limited to five or six reps a day.

They also use reps for the betting system instead of vCash. It works well.

Why do I get random Indian members talking to me on MSN? Unlike Calvin Harris, you can leave me alone thanks.

I got one on MSN I had never seen post asking me for something stupid like a rep or sumin.

Umm.. thats sound like a good idea pal:D

Reps have been misused so it wont make comeback. Even if they are back its not real picture. Jordon has minus bar but he talks more sense than anyone around here.

The golden era was about 2005-6, about when I joined :p, although I was lurking around in 2004. It has got too big to be a "proper" close knit community, but it is still decent, my favourite forum, and with TAOC and Cricket games soon to be released it will pick up again, it just is a tad too big and mediocre

Well, to be honest, the minus bar reflected the nature of his posts when he first arrived, but he has changed considerably for the better.

I don't know. I really don't have an incentive for wanting it back, but the forum that I mentioned earlier uses it to good effect to encourage user activity and to facilitate moderation. For whatever reason, nearly all the members place significant value on their reputations and when a member violates some rule, the threat of a mod neg is usually enough to get him back in line.

We also had a recharge period [Something like 9 reps] which made it even more abused! I used to get reps like "Rep spread, cheers!"

The other forum has it at 40.

I think the Rep bar and post counts really shows how that member is e.g.
if the rep bar is in red then we all know he is a bad member.
Post counts shows how active a member is.

Agree, still dunno the reason why it was removed :noway

Could a member be so enamored with you that he would go through and rep 40 different members over a period of 8 days in order to rep you again?

Yes that is basically what used to happen. Two people, for example, do it amongst themselves to mutually increase each others reps! Which is why it lost importance.

You can't mutually rep with two people, though, since the limit was above that. I suppose you could get a rep circle together if you really cared about them that much. Apparently people did and I'm sure there were people who even created second and third accounts to achieve rep glory.
