?They may not know about cricket, but they are skilled in other areas,? he added. ?For example, the country has 20 biomechanical laboratories, and they recently took the data from a series of tests on Australia?s elite players, and compared them to their local players.? The man behind that project was a certain Professor Liu, a Level Two coach and umpire, and the author of one of China?s first cricket books.

Why not? More people watching and playing cricket isn't a bad thing. More money coming in, more talent on show, tournaments being held in China. The sport will grow.

We have finally got rid of dominated team (Australia) and there is some real competition now and you again want to bring a team who will dominate the world cricket for whole life :doh

Cricket, unlike Athletics or Gymnastics is more a game of skill and not something which entirely depends on training and stamina/fitness. Don`t know what makes you feel so assured of China dominating the sport the way Australia did. While good training and structure can help you in cricket, it clearly is`nt all that straightforward in this sport.

I don`t see why the Chinese taking up to cricket is bad for the sport. The more he game spreads to different nations, the better. India v China on a cricket pitch would be epic. Easily the 2 biggest powers of Asia in most other fields.

I think the point people are getting at is that they aren't concerned about seeing business do well, but just about watching a sport.

Look at India in nearly every other sport besides cricket, just because you have a big population doesn't mean you are going to have enough good players.

You will probably just see the Hong Kong side start to bolster itself with some mainland players and eventually improve to reach the standards of other ODI only sides.

a sport won't survive if its not financially viable...... a sport will grow if it is.... china has big bucks..... connect the dots

India and China are two very different countries though. The only similar thing about them is that they have a big population. And well they're both Asian. But, besides that, they're very different. China can make things happen. On the other hand, Indian sportspeople a lot of the time don't get a lot of support or the right training or the right facilities. If there's no money in it, it's not worth it. To the officials at least.

I wouldn't put it past China becoming a decent cricket team if they wanted to. I don't think they're as communist as they used to be. But, I'm sure it's a possibility that can't be ruled out - just because that's the way China seem to roll.
