Is there a chance that cricket could feature in the Olympic Games in the future?

What do you think?

Well I hope it does because it will become famous and more countrys will play it.
and that mean it will become like football

There have been rumours of cricket being in the Olympic Games in London in 2012, but it is more likely to be at a Commonwealth Games first. The problem would be to find a format that fits the time constraints.

IMO cricket is good the way it is... i want 4-5 more teams to be full ICC members... if there are too many teams, the world cup will be long and i guess it won't be that exciting like football as there are many differences between football and cricket...

and yes cricket going to the olympics will be nice but i heard in 2010 asian games in china there will be cricket also...

20/20 would do wouldn't it? The Baseball goes for about that time doesn't it?

Twenty20 is the obvious format. Heck, India might actually win a gold medal! Britain might... no actually, they'd have no chance.

it would ave to be 20/20, tbh i cant really see it happening as great as it would be

Great Britain actually hold the gold medal in Olympic cricket. We beat France in 1900.

It then creates the problem that the Olympic Games is an amateur event. Would the cricket be for Under 19s only? Would Twenty20 be the format we want to show the world? What would the gold medalists be, world champions?

Obviously T20 is the format we can use to tap in to the large markets around the world. We have to work in stages.

Test cricket is a deep game that requires a lot of knowledge and understanding about the game first. We can't just feed them that first up and expect them to like it.

First, we show T20's in a stage like the Olympics.
Then, ODI's can be shown through local channels as the sport gains popularity.
Then tests.

As for the World Champions bit - no. We have a World Cup, and that's what we will use to judge the champions. Olympic winners will simply be noted as "Gold Medalists" or something.

You can only use the T20 format in the Olympics. However,it would be a big logistical problem and to slot the Olympics with the FTP is going to be troublesome for the organisers.

It would be nice if it was U-19 or some other junior format. Like, football in olympics is U23 =P

That's not a problem. There are plenty of professionals in other sports that participate in the Olympics. Twenty20 is most definitely the format we'd want to show the world since any other format would probably scare them away. And the gold medalists would be called exactly what they were--gold medalists. The next Asian Games will feature cricket IIRC. The 2010 Commonwealth Games (in Delhi) may feature it as well.

EDIT: Actually no, it seems like the Commonwealth Games won't: http://www.cwgdelhi2010.org/games.html
