If there is one piece of protective equipment you should always wear, it is a box!

My worst injury was earlier this season, about 7 weeks ago I think. Whilst batting I basically stretched too far forwards, putting way too much pressure on my back leg and my knee gave way. Missed a couple of games and really came back too early, but the club was desperate that weekend and I couldn't stop myself despite it being the wrong thing to do!

I know i should, but i dont eel comfortable wearing one, it depends on the bowling attack though

basically if its striaght and fast, and arounf my thigh to belly button area, i block, anything else i swing my bat at and hope for the best, not much chance of getting hit there, what can i say? tailenders dont last long

In a game I played a guy got hit in that area 3 straight balls. By the third time everyone on the field couldn't help but laugh at the guy, even though he was in some considerable pain. I've also seen a couple of people had their boxes broken when being hit, they were pretty cheaply made ones though.

Most painful injury I got when playing was a thick inside edge onto the inside of the knee (just under the knee cap).

My injuries are very minor, although i probably have the worst index finger in my town. This is becuase i usually bowl a lot of off-spin, which cuts my fingers up really badly.

My injuries to date are, at worst, bruises to my fingers. I did fracture my middle finger while trying to catch a tape ball in my building. A hairline fracture, and the cast lokked pretty weird. The damage figer erect and all...

Injury

As we probably all know, cricket is one of the most un-natural things to do for your body. Especially bowling.

Talk about your (personal!) injuries here. Discuss it, and maybe find an answer!
What was your injury and how did you get rid of it?

So I'll lead by example:p:

I have a pretty serious lower back injury. Probably the outcome of bowling a couple of years with an awful mixed action. It might end my cricket career at my age of 16. I went to a couple of doctors, but for a start, nobody knows what cricket is, so they don't understand the bowling action.
X-rays looked all normal, but I'm really feeling pain when I'm bowling. The doctors then suggested that it was a nerve problem, which is probably more serious than some over-streched muslce or something.

Im an opening bowler for my rep side in new zealand and i had done something to my knee about 3 months before cricket season and i could hardly walk so i went to the doctor and he said it was just bruising and would go away after a couple of weeks....pfft yea right.
when i started trying to bowl to hard i could feel my knee cap click outa place and it hurt like HELL!
but i played on for the first 8 games and did pritty well getting 22 wickets but then in the next games vs harder teams i started trying to hard and clicked my knee out of place again so i knew something was wrong.my mum booked me into see a knee speicialist and within a minute he could tell i had a torn ligiment and i would need sergery.
Had my M.R.I. scan last week and it showed if i kept clicking it out of place a couple more times i may never have been able to walk again so its good i got it checked out.
So the morale of this story is if you think you have an ingury get it checked out staright away....thankyou for your time :)

Yeahh im having similar problems but i dont have a mixed action

im just going through the stages at the minute, currently having physio on it but it still hurts badly when i play so i might end up having an x-ray etc. like you!

i am also thinking of retiring at 16! maybe for a couples of years anyway......maybe not

I have several minor injuries each season.

Lets see, I have had or do have:
  • Weak knees
  • Pulled the muscle which connects the forearm and the arm
  • Partially torn my side muscle on my back
  • I twist my ankle about once a month:)
  • And whatever else my body can come up with

I have been hit in the box, thankfully by a bowler who was well less than 40mph. Still had me down for a few seconds though.

Had one little mishap fielding at short cover, where I tried to catch a cut shot that went just wide of me, and it hit the end of my thumb. Of course it was painful, but I continued fielding without paying much attention to my thumb. When I finally looked at it, i saw the top bone of my thumb had dislocated, traveling back and up over the joint quite sharply, and i just pushed it back in place and went off.

Don't you hate how an injury starts hurting only once you take a good look at it. That was a prime example :D.

Besides that, I've had no problems, especially compared to some other very painful sounding injuries on this thread.
