Current best batsman in all forms of cricket combined

Tbf Sehwag has never been "inform" in 20/20 cricket, his overall record is actually quite poor. Not saying he can't be a very good 20/20 batsmen because this certainly isn't the case, but I don't know if you can put him at the top when he's lagging so much in one form of the game.

Lagging behind? If we talk just CL alone, he made a 23, 66, then 47 and every game DD played in CLT20 he has outscored both Gambhir and Dilshan. Heck his 66 alone just barely outscores both Gambhir and Dilshan's combined runs made in the tourny and he didn't even PLAY the 4th game :laugh On top of that he made most of those runs with the boundaries so I think its been a good T20 comeback for him. Remains to be seen how he finds himself back in ODI's and Tests again.

If not him I would pick Gayle too or even Kallis even though he's been struggling in ODI's for a bit.

Oh I'm sorry, I forgot that the Champions League was international cricket, how silly of me.

I said Dilshan!!!

but I'll also put forward my case for Gayle. in the past year he's scored 3 tons, 2 against england and 1 against new zealand away, which was a mammoth 197. In ODIs he also has 3 tons over the last year, 2 against pakistan and another against new zealand, but that's forgetting his best knock which was an excellent 80 off 43 balls against england that took the game away. he has 3 50s in 20/20s, including his 88 against australia which basically eliminated them, scored in england. (his only unhappy hunting ground in the other two formats) so averaging over 50 in tests, 45 in ODIs and over 40 20/20s makes him a good selection across the board.

presumably his stats would have been even better had he toured Bangladesh too.

Is there actually a batsmen in world cricket that is the best, or one of the best in all three forms of the game. Since you're talking about test and ODI cricket I'm assuming you mean Int20/20 cricket, if so.....

Duminy has been pretty average this year in one day cricket, he's averaging 31 over the course of 12 innings. Ab de Villers has been fantastic in test and one day cricket, but he's only averaging 24 in 20/20 cricket and if you take out his 79* against Scotland it drops into the teens.

One name which has yet to be thrown out there (and this surprises me) Tillakaratne Dilshan. In eight test matches this year he's scored four 100's and one 50 (which was a 90) and he's scored these runs at a very rapid 85.5 per 100 balls. In 14 ODI's Dilshan has scored 647 runs at 49.78 with a strike-rate of 98, with two 100's and two 50's. In nine 20/20 internationals Dilshan has scored 375 runs at 46.7 with a strike rate of 150. Those numbers put Tillakaratne Dilshan well above any other batsmen in the world at the moment.

I was going to mention Dilshan, but held back because his test matches were all on dead flat subcontinental tracks.

The first test against New Zealand where he scored 90 and 100 wasn't a dead track, the ball was moving all over the place in the first session or so.

Yea, but that's New Zealand! :p

It'll take a while till I'm sure if Dilshan is a class act in Tests or just an explosive bat at the top who clicks occasionally.

I'm the same though, I'm still not convinced by Dilshan and he's going to have to perform for a little while yet before I really start to rate the bloke. But as this thread stats "who's the current" best batsmen in all forms of cricket, it's pretty hard to look past Dilshan.

AB De Villiers. He is a freak of nature. Great fielder and a great batsmen. He could easily go down as one of the all time great South African cricketers.

Shane Watson is looking like topping the list, he could soon be the best cricketer in the world.

Virender Sehwag & Yuvi Singh. Sehwag is the Most Explosive Batsman on the Planet. Yuvi Singh is the man who has decimated the opposition not just with the bat, but with the ball too (despite being labeled a "pie-chucker" by the "greatest" bowler on the planet, Kevin Pietersen) :D.
