Designated Hitter in Cricket

In baseball, they have a designated hitter, who basically bats for the pitcher but doesn't field.

What about doing the same for cricket, have a designated batsman for one of your bowlers...?

People like Monty would never get a bat :-)
 
It takes out the skill factor for teams that have bowlers that are handy with the bat. And it was kinda of tried with the supersub which basically worked like the desingated hitter.
 
sorta like the supersub that we had going for a while, dont like it tbh
 
Terrible idea, I reckon, just wouldn't be very cricket like. Takes the meaning of all rounder to a lesser level too.
 
Yeah, the supersub kind of sums this up. Absolutely hated it, it took the shine off a polished team, letting them just add in a player for strength in an innings. They should only be able to use players within the line up of 11, with a 12th man for fielding (and batting I suppose, if required).
