India is land of festivals and we have so many festivals. When asked about favorite festival most will say Diwali but for me I have always loved Dusshera more.

What is you favorite festivals? Discuss upcoming festivals also as we have one every week generally and soon in one month Festival season will be officially on.

its a cliche but diwali for me.

something about it just makes you go wow !!
the lights, the firecrackers, the sweets and the overall grandeur
just amazes me.

and its probably the only time in the year where you get up at 5am :p ;)

You forget the pollution it brings.

You forget the pollution it brings.

well, it has reduced dramatically over the years....

but people should understand that the firecrackers are just a formality..
no need to get 5000 walas and atom bombs !! :p

also, festivals like ganash utsav create high levels of noise and water pollution too.

i only end up burning 10000 in 1 ladi's. :banana2

Of course the most entertaining and popular festival is DIWALI! I still miss those days when I could burn firecrackers (recently I came to India in 2008 after Diwali, but they still sold firecrackers and so I bought them and burst them to my hearts content). Its fun unlimited. Get up at 3am in the morning, go out and set off a firecracker before anyone in the neighborhood is awake (its a race between the kids of the neighborhood), take an oil bath, wear a new dress, go out and burst crackers, come back in and eat all kinds of snacks and delicious food while watching TV programs till night... ITS THE BEST!!!

Hmm...Diwali or Navratri?

I experienced both these festivals Indian Style in 2007. Diwali was awesome, fireworks loud enough to burst you eardrum, everyone joining in. As Sai said, fireworks at/till 3AM in the morning, your whole city comes alive.

But then again there is Navratri. In my home city (Porbandar), this festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm (As it is the rest of Saurashtra). People in colourful dresses all coming together to watch and play Garba. I remember my dads friends forced me to play in a Garba of about 150 people and I looked liked a fool - But those were good times.

I can't decide :noway

Have you guys seen the Diwali episode on the Office? Its interesting to see Dwight in a Kurta (spelling?)

lot of loud drumming going on here....
people dancing like crazy as well...

@sid - do people celebrate ganesh chaturthi at chandigarh ??

Dont celebrate at large scale but old ladies of house keep vrat's and go to temple in morning giving food to children.

One problem in recent times about Diwali is that in Tamil Nadu, they have brought a rule banning the use of firecrackers after 10pm and before 6am. What we used to enjoy in those days (bursting the first cracker between 2:30 and 3am) cant happen now. Dont know about other states but I know its prevalent in TN.

Happy Ganesh Chaturthi (birthday of Lord Ganesha) to everyone.... The food should be great today at my house:happy:banana2
