Fifa 09

Everyone over in EA forum land loves it as well! There are a few gripes about the size of the ball, what do you think? I'm not d/l it just yet, I'm going to wait until the morning/afternoon, by which time most people would've got it hopefully, so it'll d/l much more quickly.

I'm slightly concerned about the framerate issues everyone's talking about, but then again, that does sometimes happen with demos. I remember one Fifa demo where the ball and some players were multicoloured like rainbows, but it was fine in the full game!

Sounds like this really is the year to Fifa 09 on the PC!

Ok here my take on the game.

Its pretty good when compared to Fifa 08. The menu's, graphics (especially the 3d pitch) and player faces have all been improved. Not next gen standard but a big improvement.
Sound as always is good although there is no commentary on the demo.

Gameplay, not so good, in fact it feels like fifa 08 which is disappointing. You are still not able to trap a football, this is nothing short of a disgrace. Passing can feel clumsy as you are unable to trap the ball. Controls still feel a little unresponsive and sluggish. Shooting still seems wild, and often you aim a shot for one corner of the goal only to find the shot going to the other corner.

The gameplay has improved slightly in some areas though. Sprinting with the ball has improved which is good. Pace of the game seems spot on.

Playing the ai is rather repetitive, they do the same every time. No wing play, just ground passes through the middle. No variation in attacks, no fast counter attacking football, slow triangle passes through the middle every time.

Player off the ball movement has improved from 08, although there is still little, meaning the constant tapping of L1 is required so your player's actually make forward runs, although they never run into space, just run towards a defender.

I didn't check out the tactics/formation screen, but it was terrible last year. Sure you could select player forward runs, only they didn't run forward, they didn't charge into empty space like on pes. I hope it has been improved.

After all that has been said though, its a disappointing effort considering the hype, the ball physics still feel a little dodgy in some aspects, especially the lack of control options when receiving a pass. This will ensure that you will never play the stylish quick one touch passing game that is possible on pes.

Trying not to be too negative, it has good points and i know i will like it more as i play it. I probably won't play the demo for much longer, i hate demo's, just want the final game.

Overall, not bad, but expected more.

Haven't played it yet, what's the control responsiveness like Gas? Is it still sluggish? I hated how it took ages for a player to shoot in 08 after i'd pressed circle to make him do so!

I'm pained to say it, but well done EA, you've released a PC game which isn't horribly optimized and plain crap. I'm actually enjoying it, definately buying as I want to play as my beloved Huddersfield, something I've always missed out on.

Just tried it on my sister PC too, ATI X1650 512mb, 1.5gb of RAM and a Pentium 4 2.66ghz, and it ran on High settings with Post Processing and DOF, but no AA, and no slowdown at all. Good lord, an EA game that is optimized? That computer is fairly naff yet it looked great and ran smooth as a nut.

Now for PES, FIFA has set this years benchmark, and I'd like PES to at least match it. Lets hope they've pulled out the stops.
After reading this post I can't wait to get my hands on it, the bloody net is so slow its still downloading! :p

I want to get my hands on it on the highest settings possible. Lets put this mid / high end rig for some heavy football use! :D

I downloaded it, but I'm not yet at liberty to say my feelings for it. I've many times said Fifa was better, but from my one game i don't see much differnce to game play...but as i say...i cannot comment time i've had a good few hours on it. (of two minute halves, great)

I have to say, this is bloody brilliant. It takes all the decent features from Fifa 08, and then improves on the poor ones to make it an incredibly playable, and really fun Fifa game. The graphics are decent, player faces seem to be improved from what I've seen, and it just generally runs much better. Judging by the demo, I'd say well played EA, this is shaping up to be a cracking game, roll on October, looking forward to getting my mits on the full game.

Is the game having things like hair falling on players faces or its just my drivers getting messed up? I am getting black hair like things all around the player's faces like they're surrounded by worms lol, and also some slowdowns on using 16x AA and still some nasty jaggies!

Either ways, I'm downloading new Vista drivers ( I hadn't updated since May!) and hopefully I should get it sorted out. :)

Finally got around to playing this. Good job i've got a day off.

Anyway I can't be arsed going into too much detail yet but the games good. I can't really use too many superlatives because there isn't too much different from Fifa 08 which in many ways is no bad thing, but the responsiveness is still a bit dodgy and that's really the one thing I wanted to be fixed completely. I understand this isn't as big a problem to some of you lot, but gaming is a personal experience and this really grates me when playing FIFA.

Of course i'm still getting the game; I always do, and plus this is only a demo too. But with one down and PES to go, i'm backing PES to provide the mroe enjoyable game again this year. Will be nice to be able to play an official Champions League without having to buy a seperate title like in years gone by.

Ok, had my first 2-3 games through. My first impressions are -

Graphics - EA have really step up here, and graphics are a hell lot better and still optimised. Not really at the exact quality as the consoles, or next gen as they say, but the lighting effects and the grass are beautiful.

Mouse Control - Well its really fun to play with this new mouse control tbh, although it will take time getting used to the mouse + keyboard combo. But passing with the mouse is kinda like a dream, they go exactly at the place you want them to go. I would've appreciate a bit larger circle for passing though, its kinda like too precise atm and we should be leaving a bit of exact region to luck.

Sound - Like past games, good as is, without commentary in the demo though.

Collisions - Well in one word, FANTASTIC! The new collision system is absolutely awesome, and it adds a LOT to the realisticness to the game. Haven't really seen all the collision animations yet though, but I reckon they'll all be good.

Can't comment too much about gameplay atm because I've only had some games but the manual passing through mouse makes me feel gameplay will feel a bit more nicier.

That's enough gaming for today, lets give tomorrow's exam and hey, come back and enjoy a lot of FIFA 09, and even PES 09! :D

Hey guys, does anyone know how long it takes someone to make a demo expander usually? I was poking around the interwebz trying to find an old one which I could mimic, but they use a technique I'm no good at. I hate playing 2 minute games, you're just getting into it and it ends :|
