Too many quality players are sitting on the sidelines. The public would be that much more interested if they were playing. When the best T20 bowler in the world can't make his side there's an issue. There seems to be a heavy weighting towards batters at the moment so if the amount gets upped to 5 then we might see more bowling stars getting a go.

The rule overall makes absolutely no sense. In football just because the premiership is called the English Premier League didn't make England put a international players restriction.

What are you talking about? There are other top football leagues which do have this sort of restriction.

Now what i feel is If we have 5 Oversea players

2 Batsmen
1 All rounder &
2 Bowlers :yes better than 4 right

@ irottev : yes mate thats IPL for us creep Lalith Modi :sarcasm whats he is doing is just wasting all the money of Franchise hope he understand the value of Money :sarcasm

Ye probably. But certainly not the premiership.

The thing that annoys me is that some of the good domestic performers still rot in the sidelines. For example, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Abhishek Nayar and Dhawal Kulkarni are all possible future India players that find it difficult to break into the Mumbai Indians XI. I understand that the Mumbai line up is packed but their talent is being wasted. There's not an even allocation of Indian domestic talent in the teams and that's why there are some really crap players like Amit Uniyal and Harmeet Singh playing in the starting XI.

Yea thats all they had to do in IPL. Spread out the Indian talent evenly across the various franchises & balance it out by not buying too much international players (So that the current situation that goes on where alot of quality international players have to sit on the bench could/would have been avoided).

By doing this the IPL would have still had a good balance, where by the Indians would have still found young local talent & that young local talent & established older talent, would have bleneded well with the international stars. Thus the 4-international player rule restriction would have never been needed.

Indeed & because teams in the IPL have tended to look to strenghten their batting because of the rule restrictions. The standard of bowling 80-90% of the time is pretty poor - thus the overall standard of T20 cricket is poor. Only Mumbai Indians have a really strong bowling attack that would be on par with a international T20 attack.

The T20 World cup in the caribbean will have far better T20s matches than the IPL.

Oh great!

If I'd have given 20% of what Pietersen is given, I'd just sit back, and relax for the total life!

Or atleast, if one slow runrate fine is paid to me, I'll live my rest of my life without any problems.:yes:laugh

International cricket is always better than domestic, no matter what the format.

True. But if the IPL didn't have these restrictions for international players & teams could have just picked their best teams. The quality of cricket in the IPL would have been of international quality for sure.

Honestly, some of the fielding in the IPL is beyond embarrassing. And then you hear Dhoni saying "IPL is like International cricket" in the pre-match interview. The whole thing is laughable.

Well, I'm pretty sure he's in a better position to judge the intensity of the competition than we are. I could say the same about Pakistan's fielding tbh.

Who said Pakistan is international standard :p

Haha, that's true. I don't think Pakistan and quality should be used in the same sentence.

I do think there are teams of International quality in the IPL though. Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore would be my choices, possibly even Delhi Daredevils. Royal Challengers have no real useless Indian players as such and Mumbai's Indian talent has performed exceedingly well and even fared quite commendably when they came up against some quality International bowlers. Maybe not so much the bowling line up, but Delhi's batting line up is definitely of International quality.

I do agree about International Cricket being bigger and more important than domestic cricket in any and every scenario but there is intense competition in the IPL that is of international quality. There are weak teams in the IPL, just as there are weak teams in International cricket, but there are also powerhouses.

Okay. If not for IPL, make it 5 for CL T20.

Hey, I think I'm feeling deja vu.

Mumbai Indians has the most solid all-round mix of local Indian talent & international stars. But RCB & DD are mainly just strong in the batting. Alot of times in the IPL because of the ridiculous 4 player restriction rule, Steyn (RCB) & Vettori (DD) have to sit on the bech to accomodate a useless Indian local player. Thus weakening the standard of bowling in the RCB & DD.

None of the top 8 international teams at full-stenght would have a weak T20 teams.

Completely agreed @ KBC , yes there should be since there are quality teams participating in CLT20 tournament , more over they all have played more cricket together so IPl teams need some advantage of Oversea stars , hope the next IPL or CLT20 chairman agrees withit :D
