FTP: From the Pavilion general chat

Everyone with an FTP team, I reccomend you check the game now.

FTP have introduced an awesome new feature, called Player Talents, which gives the game a lot more depth.

Version 41 sees the introduction of Player talents, which are specific attributes a player possesses that can make them perform better than normal in certain situations. All players in FTP have been allocated one or two talents. Talents have been introduced to add a little more variety to your players, and to add another tactical aspect to the game.

Basically, these player talents help your player perform better during certain stages or throughout a match, or make them train quicker in a certain skill through their career or just while they are in the Youth Academy. These talents could also include the ability to bowl certain special deliveries, the ability to turn ones into twos, and the ability to perform better when batting or bowling against the new ball or at certain stages of the innings.
This adds a lot more tactical depth into the game, as you won't want to waste your Opener at number 7 or have your Old Ball specialist open the bowling. And since they are randomly assigned, they can be a bit frustrating (Such as when your 16 YO Wrist Spinner turns out to be Gifted in Wicketkeeping!!), but also handy, as a bowler who turns out to be a good Finisher with the bat is always an asset, or the Batsman who happens to be a Skilled Bowler too.
This also means that the live ball-by-ball commentary during a match now actually means something, as you can now see when your New-Ball bowler has struck or when your Accumulator has stolen another quick two. You can spot when your Power Hitter has smashed another biggie with brute strength, when your Safe-Hands fielder has made another great grab, or when your spinner's Doosra has gone horribly wrong. It also makes managing the squad more interesting, as you won't want to promote your Prodigy from the Youth Academy too soon, although if you have enough Sturdy players around, you might not need him. A Natural Leader could lead your team to glory, but would you want him if he happens to be a batsman whose only strength is that he bowls a mean Yorker?

This really has taken the game to a whole new level, and at this rate it will become greater than BT. It has yet to kick start, and although all players have been assigned their talents, the first time they'll come into play is 24th January, the first Friendly games of the new season.

how funny, I started this thread, I dont play anymore...

Is anyone else still playing? I don't pay that much attention but do keep the team going.

I've been promoted in OD and Youth OD leagues, came second in 20/20. Just noticed some rankings on my Club page (not sure if they're new, don't remember seeing them before) and I have the top raked youth team in the country (7th in the world). My OD team is 17th in the country (78th in the world) and in 20/20 I'm 24th in the country (83rd in the world). Not bad!

promoted in all forms of the game...

I never play it myself...

OD: 5th in country, 126th in world
20/20: 4th in country, 100th in the world
youth: 4th in country, 147th in the world...

The rankings are new.

What do you think of the new Player Talents feature? Also, from 24th Jan, Commentary on the matches will actually mean something!!

Does anyone play this? Let me tell you it, it is quite an incredible game. Huge fun.

After you mentioned it in feedback, I had a look at it. Looks impressive. More than just management. Club dictatorship, isn't it? :D

I will try and sign up for it and play it at some point. My Interweb commitments are a bit much atm, combined with decorating, etc. Will try and do it soon, looks like fun.

Join BT ;) FTP is just rubbish :(

Coming from a guy who hasn't played the game.

I can guarantee you this - FTP is far more complex and far more realistic than BT. It's got a wonderful match engine and lots of fantastic feautures. Picking a starting XI is tougher in FTP as well, thanks to values like Technique, Power, and ofcourse, Talents.

Anyways...

The 15th of August of 2008. A special day in history. Not only was it India's 61st Independance day, but it was also the day The Blind Society secured the West Indies' Championship in the SOD competition. A 239 run win over Cascade away at Cascade CG meant that The Blind Society were the first human-run team to raise the prestigious trophy, and the first human-run team to claim the prizemoney from it as well.

The Blind Society, managed by Zorax, finished the league with 52 points in 14 games, their only loss being to the Giants in the first game of the competition.
After dropping the opening game of the season, TBS went on a magnificent unbeaten streak, handling anything the other teams threw at them. They finished with a nifty NRR of 2.9 as well, second only to Carib Beer Irregulars (Who finished second).

While only 4,488 fans appeared to see TBS clinch the title, twice as many arrive for the penultimate match at The Blind Society CG between TBS and CBI, the match that turned out to be a heavyweight clash for the title. CBI were behind on points, but ahead on NRR, so a win for them would see them secure the championship on NRR. With both teams to face ameature teams for their final games, it was essential TBS won to keep themselves ahead on points. Powered by the spin trio of Murti, Ranjani and Pradip on a dry pitch, and the batting of skipper Mayuri and youngster Nicholas Bourne, TBS secured a 6 wicket victory, much to the joy of the home crowd.

Today Vedananda and Barendran took the Cascade bowling attack to town, scoring 163* and 162* respectively in a mammoth 389 run partnership as TBS piled on a whopping 410/2 in their 50 overs on a flat pitch.
Cascade managed 171 all out in reply, lasting out 46 overs. Ranjani took three wickets and Murti two, with Pradip, Jaspal and Pawan picking up a wicket each. The 4,000 odd fans who had come all the way out to support TBS were whipped into a frenzy as Murti clean bowled the number 11 Lee to wrap up a mammoth 239 run win, and with that, the Div 1.1 championship.

"It's a great feeling. Massive." said TBS skipper Bhavitra Mayuri.
"We kicked off the season poorly, eliminated from the Pavillion Cup early and losing the first game of the season. But the guys really fought back hard, we fought back as a team, and as a result we've accomplished this fantastic feat."
"Hopefully this will be the first of many more to come!" Added Mayuri, with a smile.

Other teammates weren't readily available for comment (Due to partying, duh!), but Zorax managed to take some time out for some words.

"Yea, it has been a wonderful season. Not only have the lads shown what they can do by winning this competition, but they were brilliant in the T20 format as well. We had a bit of a stuttering start, but we've ended this season brilliantly, and hopefully we've made a name for ourselves now. A mention about our youngsters too, they were lagging mid-table, but with a series of resounding wins are set to promote as well! So it's a fabulous season, and an exciting one awaits us!"

He also let loose some details on the team composition for next season.

"We've let go of a couple of players. Talented fellas, but they didn't fit into our future plans. I've got my eye on a few players on the TM, so we'll see how that goes."
"Our team was built around a lot of allrounders this season, players like Jaspal, Murti, Pawan, Bourne and Swathi weighed in with both bat and ball at different stages of the season. Our keepers (Dristi and Mahadevan) were impressive as well, very tidy behind the stumps and contributing with the bat at crucial junctions. They were the key to our success not only in this competition, but in the season as a whole. The wins from the T20 games and from Sportal cup or PCC gave us the momentum and belief to carry into our crucial games in this league."
"However, we may see less of these allrounders next season. They will have a role to play, but hopefully with the new changes in allowing Youth players to represent the Senior team, and maybe with a purchase or two from the TM, we will have more well-defined roles for our players in the future."
"Our spinners played a big role this season in many of our crunch victories. Our pacers like Jaspal, Emankum, Pawan, Srimal and Swathi usually had to take a back seat on the dry, crumbling or slow tracks we usually played on. However, next season expect to see the pacers to play a bigger role as the likes of Nasser, Manjari and Arnberger in particualar likely to make their way into the senior side. Spin bowling will still thrive though, with Lokesh being a very bright prospect, and Murti, Ranjani and Pradip just getting better and better"
"One significant change will be an improvement in our batting. Lads like Richards, Hamdan, Najeeb will be putting more pressure on the current lineup to perform, and we might see a couple more lads joing the team via the TM."

After that insight into the future of TBS, Zorax went off to join his team in their merry making, celebrating their historic moment. With several other wonderful sides expected to join Div 1.1 next season, it will be interesting to see if TBS can retain their title, but as for now Zorax's only worry is to make sure that he doesn't get arrested for serving alcohol to the minors in his team.

BT should be below if you ask me. FTP is far less reliant on playing the TM and earning cash and far more reliant on tactical ability than BT. It rewards creative tactics and decisions far more than BT does.

On your comment in the other thread.

I can't coment on the tactics side but not many BT players on this forum actually look to the TM for cash. You sell YP for cash but you still are taking a risk. Other than that I train my players to be in my 11 not for the TM. Only WC and previously Effine really used the TM for cash revenue.

Also when I did play it, it was too complicated to keep me interested in it. BT is simple and thus easier to stay hooked imo.

I mean playing the TM to improve your team, not to earn cash. The way training is in FTP is such that you can't have 1-2 superstar players, but can train your team as a whole. In BT you divide 10 nets between 3 trainees, earn cash, and buy players to fill in other spots. And in BT, the better team almost always wins. The engine is horrible too, BT collapses, batsmen not farming the strike or playing to the situation, etc.

But it is simpler. FTP takes up a lot of time. Next season NT tours start. I've got 9 NT/U-19 players (6 from Bangla, 3 from UAE), and so I've got to plan my lineups for matches around when they will not be available as every match of mine next season in SOD and T20 will be against humans!

It's far more efficient, over the long term. To single net trainees. Unless you're aiming for U-19/NT player, obviously.

BT's training is, IMO more flexible. If you want to train a superstar (and get fun out of the game that way) you can do.

As for the match engine in FTP i won't comment. the player development system does not suit me at all, and as a result I'm not interested in the matches.
